Are fucking pieces of shit. Fuck adaptec!

Software RAID on 4 shitty, western digital 7200RPM IDE drives? How they can market these hunks of junk as enterprise quality hardware is beyond me. I wouldn't put one of those piece of shit drives in my porn box let alone my mission critical enterprise applications.

2 drives failed at the same time, fucking the RAID array and causing a $19000 Ontrack data recovery bill. I had never worked with one before this week and if I ever see another one in a potential customer network, I will walk away no matter how large the account is.

Ugh, I cant stand software based raids to begin with, if its not hardware based I wont touch it.

software raid is garbage. How the hell did two drives fail at once? It had to be the software. I have NEVER seen two hard drives physically fail at one time.

I think the AC in the server room failed for a few hours and the temp of the room exceeded the threshold for the POS Snap server and fried the POS drives in the array. The 22 other Dell servers in the room sailed through the heatwave with no problems beyond a couple of thermal sensor alarms.

We went and bought some seagate drives to try to get this piece of shit back online but Adaptec WOULD NOT help me because they were not approved drives. I had them send me 2 drives next day delivery so we could get this thing working before end of day today... What did they send me? FUCKING MAXTOR DRIVES!!! WTF? Maxtor??? Are they fucking joking? AAAAAGGGGGH!!!!!

Worst. Drives. Ever.

90% of the time I deal with failed drives, they are Maxtor and that's not an exaggeration.

Seagate bought Maxtor at the end of last year and the sale was completed this past Monday. So maybe the quality of the drives will be better.

I have a split between Maxtor and WD at home. roughly 6 maxtor drives and 5 WD drives. In the last 6ish years I have had 3 drive crap out on me, all were WD.

Maxtors are sure not the best quality, but they arn't complete shit.

I'm going to shit in one of the drive bays. I have more confidence in my dung being able to serve apps and files than I do in the drives currently in there.

I've never actually had a drive blow up on me personally

my fileserver's OS has been running on a Quantum fireball for almost 7 years now, 24/7 and i've never had an issue with it~

i've found at work that most of the "harddrive issues" we've had have all been related to how the application on them accesses the drives, and causes whacky issues
