flowers?

Is that a good deal/worth getting? I've never bought flowers for a girl before, so it's uncharted territory for me.

Also, why do girls like flowers? I've always thought of it as being like... "Here! Have some slowly dying plants that symbolize how I feel about you and our relationship! Why don't you stick them in some water so you can enjoy their prolonged suffering?"

The price for the flowers isn't bad...the delivery cost isn't good, though. Just call a local florist and check on prices.

It's a good deal. The most important thing about flowers is that you deliever them in person and say something nice about her. If you can't do that, have a card included that says something even nicer about her.

As for why? Who the fuck knows but does it really matter?

Good prices but play the scenario out in your head.

"Oh Flink! These are beautiful! You must've spent a ton on them!"

"Oh don't worry. I saved like 50 bucks by getting them from Amazon.com"

If you're deliverying them yourself on-line florests are ok. The crappy part is they deliver them via UPS/DHL/FedEx so they don't come arranged, just in a big cardboard box. Half the flowers will be smooshed in some way, and most of the leaves broke. Sure you might save some $ but everytime I've ordered online they die fast and look like crap compaired to a local florest. That, and the local guys will deliver *today* if you need. Don't buy online unless you're taking them to her yourself. Even then I think it's woth the extra couple bucks (if that) to pick them up from a local place.

Girls love flowers and love it when a guy gives them flowers whether sent, or in person.

Not all girls. I told Jj I would dump them all over his head if he ever bought me flowers again. Personally, I have never understood the "why" behind the joy of getting flowers. I've always thanked him, but it seems like such a waste of cash to me.

Darcler, I'm not saying you're immature... at all, but I will say that maybe you're just at that age where you don't yet *appreciate* the gesture of a man bringing a woman flowers. You might like it in about 5-10 years down the road. Most women I know, in their late 20's on up, really love Chivalry on a man's part and love flowers being given to them.

Maybe you're a bath-gel and body lotion type girl!

omg i love getting flowers. i'm with darc, though, in that i don't like roses. too cliched i think. my favorite flowers are tulips, calla lilies, orchids, and lilies of the valley. oh and irises.

my roommate doesn't like roses either; she's a daisy girl.

flowers are just really pretty to look at, i guess, and their choosing takes time and consideration, meaning the guy (if he's smart) took the time to sit and figure out which type of flower or arrangement would suit his lady and how he wants to make her feel. for example, if josh gave me tulips or lilies of the valley i would feel loved and cared for; if he gave me orchids or calla lilies, it would make me feel more amorous than romantic. different flowers evoke different emotions.

i'm just sayin', the gift of flowers involves a lot more than just a slowly dying plant.

No, I have particular reasons for everything. I will never *really* like getting any of the above listed things.

I dont like flowers. I am the Grim Reaper of vegetation. I dont like roses, I dont think they smell as good as everyone says they do and they die too fast. I do, however like lilies and I loved the ones that I got for Mother's Day. Unfortunately, they are long dead. Potted and everything :(

I do not like chocolate. Some people dont like spinich or fish or whatever. I dont like chocolate. I never have.

I dont like diamonds. I did not say I didnt like jewelery. I do not like diamonds. A clear stone? Oooh neat :dunno:
My wedding ring is garnet and I love it. I wouldnt like it (as much) if it were diamond.

I dont like shower gels and lotions as presents. It makes me feel bad about myself :(

For that price, the roses probably wont last very long the quality is crap. I used to work in a florist.

I suggest going to local florist. picking out some flowers that appeal to you, buy a cheap vase & you arrange them (yourself) with a card attached. Every now & then you can buy new flowers to surprise her, use same vase & eventually you will be a master at placing flowers & learn a skill!! Its really not hard.

You will spend about the same if not less, also they will be fresh (last longer) & it shows that you put thought & effort into it. Does not matter that you can not arrange flowers, she will change it anyway :)

For suggestions on type of cheap, but eye candy flowers would be:
Iris, , aster, Alstroemeria, Stargazer lily (only get one lily they can be about 5-6 bucks). Then add 1 rose to top it off :).
Good luck.

Stargazer lillies are my favorite in the world.

I got flowers through the mail once. He couldnt deliver them in person, as he was stationed overseas :)
It was a whole bunch of lillies and a couple carnations as fillers. You have to trim and cut them yourself, some of the leaves were broken or badly bruised. It was more work than I wanted for a present.

You know what I want? A fruit basket, like cut into pretty flower shapes. THAT is something useful. plus I get to eat it. All. All mine. Yum. Fruit.

My ex-boyfriend sent me flowers all the time and I hated it. Seemed a senseless waste of money, especially since I knew the state of his finances.

Kahar, on the other hand, has only gotten me gold plated roses and I absolutely love em. They won't die and they aren't something everyone has.

I'm with Darc on the diamonds.....I insisted on having a solitaire sapphire on my engagement ring.

I love flowers. I think they are beautiful, and they brighten up the house. I like receiving flowers just because it happens so rarely. It's a special treat. But it's not so much that I want him to spend money on me; I'd seriously be just as touched if he stopped and picked some dandilions from our front yard. It just shows he wanted to do something nice for me, and give me something he knows I like.

Say it with flowers, send her a cactus.

A cactus would be a neat gift, too :) As long as it's not one of those cheesy ones with the dead mum hot-glued to the top.

I love flowers, I've worked in four shops, and I want to have my own shop by 30.
If you want to get nicely arranged flowers, buy them from a designer, but if you just want to get a bouquet....Safeway is a good place. All flowers come from the same market - don't tell anyone I said that though.
