I would agree Germany V Frace. Edge Germany.

Of course I have to pull for my Azzurri, but it would be so sweet to watch Germany take it all. Italy is starting to look like Italy again, but France has just looked dominate in their past two.

I honestly have no idea how this is going to pan out.

I just started watching soccer for the first time ever during this world cup, and I had a question perhaps one of you soccer buffs could answer.

Why is it everytime someone falls over they pretend like they broke their leg.. is it REALLY that important to act like you just got shot everytime someone touches you?
I mean come on either they are the biggest pussies ever or maybe its required to act like that for fouls? please enlighten me ;( :mystery:

That's a great question Alphonso. First of all, the only protection a soccer player has are shin guards. If they get kicked anywhere but the shin, it does hurt like freakin hell... sometimes, it's unbearably painful. I know this, because I played for 5 years myself. Then, they are subject to any other normal injuries sustained by athletes of any sport... twisted ankles, pulled hamstrings, knee injuries, etc.

What you're seeing is a combination of that, plus acting, to make the injury appear greater than it actually is.

Most of them are legit but with a lot of theatrics. Some are just flopping so the referees would give them free kicks and to induce the referees to give yellow cards to the other team. However, the referees can also give out yellow cards to the floppers. Although, this is rarely done.

I think if you flopped and faked injury, the other team should get a free kick on any part of your body including the head.

Germany over Italy 1-1
I see this a draw game.. but there are quite possibilities Italy might beat Germany despite the German defense being very strong. but im supporting Germany on this one but since my bet is only 90 mins and GErmany is giving half goal. Im betting Italy and its gonna be a draw game. and Extra time would most probably be a tie and Penalty. Either that or one of the teams get LUCKY with a goal.

Portugal over France 1-0
Despite how much i love portugal, France might have a high chance on winning this one unless Ronaldo works out his magic pass. And HOPEFULLY Maniche don't try another Gerrard stunt. The whole world cup he has been doing it and he misses it all the time. Imma still support POrtugal

Final match: Hoping Portugal win this (1-1000 possibily) Its the only country among the 4 that hasnt won the cup in history.

There's a Christiano Ronaldo that plays for Portugal, Mindia. He's a superstar-level midfielder. I think that's who she's referring to.

I can try and answer this, I played semi pro (passed up the chance to abroad to play pro to finish HS). Many of the times that you see them just get tapped, you really are not seeing what happened. Those little shots hurt like hell. Also keep in mind, almost all of those players out there are hurt, you really do get beat on playing a full game. Unlike most US pro sports, you can’t just shuffle people in and out all game, you get 3 subs a game period, every game. Your bench is not there to fill out your team, they are more or less emergency backups for your real team. Your players are expected to be able to play a full game every game. btw, practice is just as rough if not more so then the games.

Also as was said before, the only protection you have on is shin guards. I don’t know what these guys are using, but I can tell you what myself and my teammates wore. The cheapest smallest things we could find, usually $5 from a toy store. You might think this is stupid, why not get something that protects better? The major reason is, the more it protects, the more it limits the movement of your ankle. This is huge for a soccer player. The only thing our guards protected was our shin bone, everything else was wide open.

Now a small amount of those hits really are the player just trying to get a call, but the people taking dives and selling fouls usually are just falling on their face and getting up.

So short answer, they really are not acting, they are hurting and usually badly. I can tell you 1 thing for sure. Anyone who says the guys out there a wimps has no idea what their talking about. Most people couldn’t keep up with those guys for 10 minutes, forget trying to do it for 90. I have watched teamates get stitches on the sideline while the team played down a man, screaming at the doc to do it faster so he could get back in the game. I have seen players dislocate shoulders, have them reset on the sidelines and gone back in. Playing with broken bones is not unheard of either, played with a guy who had broken bones in each foot who stayed in the game until the end. Soccer players are amoung the toughest players in the world, along side rugby and hockey players.

Soccer players are all divers. I don't buy all this crap about playing injured and what not. If anyone comes near em they act like the just got shot.

No doubt soccer players are well conditioned but they are, for the most part, fucking pansies.

Thats like someone who has never played Ice Hockey before that says they are wimps because their shifts only last for a minute or two. You have no idea what your talking about. Come back when you have experienced it and argue your point. I have played with people who thought the same way you do, they usually survived part of the first day of tryouts. Some even got to day 2 before they couldn't handle it anymore. It would only take 1 practice on any real team to make you change your mind.

I've actually played a lot of soccer in my day, and I did say they were well conditioned, which is why I couldn't handle a practice. But these guys are divers and whiners and pansies.

No other sport has as much bitching and whining, and blatant diving in it. You can’t watch 2 minutes of a game without watching some jackass fly to the ground like he just got hit by a car cause someone ran next to him.

What did you play? High School soccer? I can tell you from personal experience, soccer post beyond HS is very different the High School soccer. No I am not talking the old farts from around town who play in a fun little league. I am talking about the people who play pro and semi pro. I have played in exebition matches with national teams, what is the extent of your experience that you know more about this then I do?

Basketball? Hell even Hockey has its fair share (have watched people throw themselves into the boards without being touched by anyone and yelled for a penalty)

Highschool? Dear lord no, not even. But I do know how the game is played and I do know that as much as you'd love for things to be different, soccer players are whiners, divers, and pussies. Hockey isn't even close to comparing. Sure they complain about calls and they do at times dive, but you don't seen nearly as much of it and they're on skates. How unstable is a person running down court? Basketball players run just as hard as soccer players do on the fast break and they don't fall all over them selves every time someone puts a little pressure on them.

Facts are facts. David Behckam is a big sand-infested, pussy.
