Actually the two companies I'm looking at turns over their rigs every year and a half to two years. The oldest rig I would drive would an '04.

That would be cool to drive one of those old antique rigs. Let me know when you get your license and actually start driving. I will make sure to wave at all the 18 wheelers, just in case it is you.

Nope, he's safe too. He's part of the "Middle States" division. The "11 Western States" division is:

California
Oregon
Washington
Nevada
Idaho
Utah
Arizona
Montana
Wyoming
Colorado
New Mexico

Besides, he'd be safe anyway if I ever rolled through Nebraska, because I'm always a safe driver.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just kidding ;)

Congrats!

Mindia,

I am in no way trying to give you a compliment, but don't you think you are a little too good of a person to drive a truck. 95% of the truck drivers I knew that would come into the bar when I was still working there were white trash.

Are you guaranteed a job with one of those companies or are you just hoping?

I don't know how to respond to this. First of all, are you so terribly frightened of giving me a compliment for some reason? All I care about right now is getting a good-paying job that has opportunity for advancement. I know there are scumbags in trucking, but there are scumbags in almost any field or profession. I'm not going to let that interfere with my goals. I'm a hard worker, and I'm going to focus on doing the best job I can when I'm out there on the road. The transportation industry has many, many doors that open once you have some experience behind the wheel. Honestly, when I look back at all the different jobs I've had, I wish I would have started this like 15 years ago. But I can only look forward at this point.

The not wanting to pay you a compliment thing was a joke. A funny ha ha, not a funny queer. What kinds of doors can it open for you other than other trucking jobs. I thought you wanted to settle down and start a family. I'm not saying it CANT be done, but it is hard. My best friends husband (he is one of the 10% that are not white trash) is a truck driver, and it always puts a strain on their relationship.

Nothing is guaranteed. What I have going for me is that when they do a background check on me, they will find that I have no criminal record, a clean DMV record -- no major, or even minor moving violations (last MV I got was back in 1992), no child-support issues, no DUI's, no drug offenses, etc. etc. etc.

The job placement specialist at the trucking school said I should have "no problem whatsoever" in securing a job with Gordon or Werner. She said she's placed drivers with prior DUI convictions, drug records, and one guy had 28 jobs in 2 years. Now, somebody with a past history like that will most likely not get on with a professional carrier like Gordon or Werner, but there are TONS of local companies that need Class A drivers... especially NOW during the agricultural period, which runs through November.

Oh hehe. :boots:

Well, like I said, I just got my management degree. At both Gordon and Werner, *most* of the managers started off as drivers, and both of those companies promote from within. That's my goal. To drive for at least a year, maybe 2 or 3, do the best job I can (on-time deliveries, taking care of the rig, maintaining a safe driving record, etc.), then hopefully I will get promoted into management. Managers work at the terminals and drop yards, and Sacramento has that. If not, then there's always the opportunity to become an owner/operator.

 No can do, chief. I like watching the girls line dance, but I don't do it. Also, I have an aunt and some cousins who just moved from Tucson to Sierra Vista. I'll probably roll through there from time to time.

Just be glad Golden Showers aren't illegal, or you would have a LONG record keeping you from your dream job.
