I have never heard of hacktivism or mash-up (except when referring to potatoes ;)).
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

codec previously was just an abbreviated form of code/decode, kinda like modem (modulate/demodulate). This just gives it an official meaning to a word that those who use it already know what it is.

Mash-up refers to taking two music samples and cross mixing, yes?

a mash-up is taking two or more existing songs and combining them to create a different song.

Well that's kinda what I said :D

I've liked the mash-ups I've heard. A local station here does somethign they call "Mixphoria" every friday (prolly not unique as this station isn't the most innovative in the world) but they bring a guy in the studio who does them professionally and for like an hour with no commercials it's just mix after mix.

I've also had people do mash-up poetry.
