This started out as a WWII era Chech made Mauser 98 action in 8mm Mauser. I bought the action for $75 and refurbished it. Replaced the bolt, swept the handle and made an extension knob out of aluminum. Lapped the lugs and face, trued the face of the reciever, chambered for .308 (7.62) and installed the heavy fluted stainless barrel, the glass bedded the mess into that stock. The finish on the metal is DuraCoat color "parker." The scope is a SS10x42mm with Mil-Dot reticle. Even though it's a bolt action, it's single shot. The action is too long for the .308 to feed properly, but if you drop a round in one at a time it works great.

And this is what it can do. I'm happy with the results.

That 3 shot group measures .770" outside to outside, since it's a .30 caliber bullet, that makes the group center to center of .470". Less than half a minute of angle at 100 yards. The farthest I was able to shoot today was 300, and it smoked 4" steel plates all day. The ammunition used was Federal Match 168 grain Sierra Match Kings.

This was a fun build and is a joy to shoot, heavy enough there's hardly any felt recoil. Later this week or next week I'll try to get to the other range and see how it does at five six and seven hundred. Total cost, with the scope? $600. And the scope was half that. Can't buy a rifle for anywhere close to that price that will perform like this. They should do this on the DIY network.

Dude travels iwth his marines Saftey trapped in the desert may die from dehydration manual that is like a 300 page binder. and has his carry on luggage wrapped in zip lock bags inside so incase they land in water he can use his bag as a floation

he has in his basement and apocolypse prep area containing at least 4 different bags in case the end of the world is there and he is still alive.

I'm not quite that bad. I do have a "bug out" bag made up. It's a 2,500 cu. in. frame pack with 2 changes of clothes for me and the old lady (1 warm weather 1 cold) in a water tight river bag, water purifier, iodine tabs, first aid, gerber axe, 550 cord, tarp, space blankets, some other trinkets and a AR15 carbine with 300 rounds in magazines.

It's pretty much an all around thing, if there's a natural disaster, tornado etc since I doubt I'll ever flood. Or something of more apoptylicitc in nature, that bag has every thing we'd need to live out of it for a week, to secure food/water/shelter and defend ourselves from either animals or 2 legged variety. Maybe it sounds crazy or silly, but if it does, ask someone from New Orleans if they wished they'd had a bag like that to strap on when the SHTF.

I'd prefer not to trust my life to aid, either foriegn or domestic when I'm more than able to be a little prepared myself.

Thanks for the compliments on the rifle, I'm extremely proud of it, it's the first bolt action I've done any serious work on.
