About six years ago, the issue started gaining momentum again. Randall Robinson's "The Debt: What America Owes to Blacks," was a best seller; reparations became a central issue at the World Conference on Racism in Durban, South Africa; and California legislators passed the nation's first law forcing insurance companies that do business with the state to disclose their slavery ties. Illinois passed a similar insurance law in 2003, and the next year Iowa legislators began requesting — but not forcing — the same disclosures.

Several cities — including Chicago, Detroit and Oakland — have laws requiring that all businesses make such disclosures.

Ironic, considering that the white house was built by slaves. D:

So wait I'm actually really confused by this. Do you people that point out grammar mistakes think you're cool or something? I'd love someone to point out a grammar mistake when I'm shit-talking them irl. Sweet tactic, but probably only okay to use it when you're safe behind your computer screen eating a pint of Breyer's out of the carton.

The only grammar I tend to insult is people who keep fucking up you're & your. This is something you should have learned in 2nd or 3rd grade, if not earlier. If you can't write at the grammatical standard of a 7 year old, yes, I'm going to make fun of you.

You are supposed to spell out everything up til 10, but America has bastardized the English language so 1-9 is acceptable now.

Actually, I'll rarely call someone on grammar online, but I do it constantly when arguing with friends RL. Like if they try to use a word they cannot pronounce because using a bigger word would make their position so much stronger. That drives me batshit crazy.
