"because it's bad" is a piss-poor answer. you have done nothing to explain your position other than repeat "drugs are bad, m'kay" and it's laughable.

THC (hemp in general actually) is not a physically addictive substance.

Weed makes you retarded, but it's nothing worthy of being illegal. Hell alcohol is much worse than weed.

What THC does to the body is very bad. That is the issue.

Neither are Big Macs - you want to out law those as well?

And, guess what? More people die every year due to respiratory diseases caused by the emissions of fossil fuel plants (we use to produce electricity) than die from weed use. Shall we go ahead and shut down all the coal plants in the country sinse it's bad for us?

It absolutely is laughable...how ignorant to think that you can't compare two of the same kind. Of course you can!

Tell me something Mindia. Did you ever smoke to get high? Drink to get drunk? Because it's the same thing, what you're doing. Sure, you swallow alcohol. Well, you swallow caffeine too, and it's a form of a drug. It happens to be that to consume that particular drug, or depressant, you have to swallow it. It comes in a form of a liquid. The other, you smoke. Oh, you smoke cigarettes too, if you choose to have your tobacco in that form. If you want it in another way, you can put it in your mouth. Some drugs you eat. Some you snort. The point is, that no matter which form it comes in, every drug has the same purpose, does the same thing. To make you feel good. To alter your mood, speed you up, chill you out.

when you have coffee in the morning you want to speed up. you won't ever get it though-now that you're addicted to it, you can't feel the extra energy anymore. Now you're just making the coffee industry money. What did that do? got you addicted is all. that's what drugs do. Look at spazz, and me, and whoever else can't stop smoking. Well...it sure seemed okay at the time but when you think about it, what the fuck are we doing allowing people to smoke cigarettes? Nicotine is highly addicting. If anyone thinks the government decides what is legal/illegal based on their concern for our health, then I have a bridge to sell you also.

want to chill out at night? after work? drink that beer...and drink a little more every time. It's the only thing that is legal for you to do. The one thing the law allows you to do, the one thing that is okay with them-as long as you don't drive...is to drink alcohol. It's a depressant but at the same time it is also, along with caffeine, and nicotine is addicting. They do the same thing. The result is different perhaps, but they are all drugs and they do the same thing. You want more.

Why do you think thin/healthy/athletic people are so happy? Because they are "up" and they move their bodies, getting their blood moving, using their muscles which gives our bodies a feeling of euphoria- It feels good to have that kind of energy. Look at the energy drink market...Americans are lazy, unmotivated and have no energy because of it.

That'd be the only reason I could ever justify marijuana being illegal-NOT because of it's danger to society in the way of crime rates, etc...as they say, "noone ever sucked a dick for some weed." It's ultimately the kind of drug that makes some people lazy and while taking it easy is okay, in this fast-paced time, no longer nine-to-five-it's all damn day long-not to mention so many people in our country already need to get up off of the couch and quit stuffing their face so much-YES EVEN THE ONES THAT DO NOT SMOKE MARIJUANA-THEY ARE LAZY TOO-we almost can't, in good faith say, "oh here's another reason to not get up off the couch you can legally smoke marijuana now." But then again, I know plenty of professionals that work long hours, ten hour days and smoke at night when they get home. Are they lazy? Depends on the person. But I do not believe that it's good faith our government was acting on when they made it illegal.

It's coffee we expect to wake us up in the morning, get us moving, help us through the day-or some form of caffeine. Children naturally have more energy than any of us. It's wonderful I love it...but have you ever watched a child after they've been given some caffeine? Haha...they could just as easily make it illegal to use caffeine if they were really concerned about your health.

Arlos made a good point I think, when he said that the government doesn't want you to have anything that makes you feel too good. It's absolutely true. along with what Garg said...they make out better this way.

I don't care if people smoke weed or want it legal etc, I've never smoked it and probably never will. The main reason I haven't is because I see the effects its had on some irresponsible people that are now totally fucking retarded and all they think about is weed. I really don't need that in my life, but if you're strong enough to enjoy it now and then and not get hooked good for you.

I think alot of people are just like me in my thinking about it only they think the solution is to totally get rid of it instead of just not use it.

You're right Dylan, except that you should realize that when you observe behavior, you see that people who make those choices, such as to allow weed to become a controlling factor in their lives, are going to make those choices no matter what. It's not a character flaw, it's just something they possess. If it weren't weed, it'd be something else.

Many people absolutely have no desire to drink, or smoke cigarettes, smoke weed-whatever. It's a personal choice I think you'd make anyway. People just replace their addictions. the ones that find hope in religion after coming out of rehab are more than likely just trying to find something to delve into. (the ones that truly believe are an exception of course and I respect that.) People quit smoking they eat more. Quit drinking, it's soda. Chewing gum.

Some people let it control them.

I've lost plenty of friends to weed. I don't smoke, so they just get a whole new circle of friends that do. I slowly get phased out because it's all they do 24/7.

Mindia err Narrock (insert side rant about people changing their names). Do you feel that tobacco and alcohol should also be controlled substances (in essence illegal)?

I tend to be very suspect in regards to the medicinal value of marijuana, I also don't believe it has no negative effects on the body (especially with frequent extended use). Every thing you've stated concerning the negative effects of marijuana however could also be reasonably applied to alcohol and tobacco, and in some aspects to a greater degree.

Did we not learn from Prohibition that when you ban an intoxicant that the populace wants, you do nothing whatsoever towards making that substance go away. Demand WILL create a supply, and if there is no legal source of supply, an illegal one will appear. Simply impossible to remove something that there is a demand for.

Mindia, I would ask you in all sincerity why you consider comparing pot and alcohol to be so off the mark? Both are drugs that intoxicate, etc. The main difference being that Alcohol actually has WORSE long-term effects than pot does, as well as greater potential for violent behavior while intoxicated. The only difference between them is that one is currently legal and one is not. So, why do you consider them so disparate? Please, with reasons, I really want to know your thought process behind your position.

Oh boy, I'm not even gonna get into this argument. Its been done too many times on NT.

However, the History of Drugs documentaries are really interesting. I watched the one on cocaine, and it was a good watch. I never knew it used to be so widely used as a cure all medicine, so it was really cool to learn about its history.

I'm not answering any more questions about this subject. The facts remain... Marijuana is very bad for you. It also causes lung cancer, and has over 400 toxins in it. If you want to vote to legalize it, that's your choice. I will vote to keep it illegal. It's sad that a great many of you are uneducated about marijuana, but whatever... this is the NT after all.

I know its bad for me homie and im aware of what heavy use will do to you as well. Moving on to the next thing why dont you google what booze or big macs or living near heavily polluted areas will do to you and answer me do you think we should put everyone whos doing something unhealthy in jail. Lemme break it down for you in a free country you should be able to make YOUR OWN choices about how healthy you want to be and not have to face jail time for them unless you fuck up real bad. When you give the government the power to decide how were gonna live you move away from freedom and towards something else. Sure not being able to smoke is a very small infringement on my rights but when you throw in all the other powers the goverment has becuase of the WAR ON DRUGS the infringements start to add up. OPEN YOUR EYES ! If you like google so much why dont you look up how many times swat teams have fucked up because of the war on drugs or how much property has been stolen from americans. Go ahead and support the war on drugs but dont pat yourself on the back thinking bout what a great patriot you are cuz your really supporting some very ANTI AMERICAN IDEAS. If ya think im wrong do a little bit more googleing and try to figure out how our founding fathers would feel bout it. God your an asshole.

Just to be fair, all drugs have adverse effects. Thousands of people a year die from prescription drug reactions. I really think you'd do yourself a favor by watching that episode of Bullshit. Every sailing ship in the old world's ropes were all made of hemp. Clothes were made of hemp. Blah blah it goes on and on. All of its benefits superbly outweigh any minor adverse effects in a really small % of the total users. I know plenty more sad alcoholics. Do you just shrug off the demon that is alcohol because it's legal? I don't get it
