Xbox emulation? :o

Post by Yamori »

Does anyone here use the X-Box for emulation purposes?

I'm specifically wondering about SNES/Sega emulation, and how fast/smoothly these two run on x-box. I'd really like to be able to play these at full quality on a TV, but Dreamcast kinda sucks for those two. ;/

No shit.

I'd buy an x-box if they had reliable SNES/Genesis emulation.

I've played them on an x-box. It runs pretty much flawlessly.

I have emulators for most major systems running on my xbox. Actually I think I have only played 1 xbox game period. Also run xbox mediacenter which works very well. In general, an xbox make a great system.

I modded my xbox some time ago and had a ui set up with snes9x on there. Ran like a dream. You gotta tweak the display settings a bit to fit to your TV but it looks and runs great.

Sad thing is I got an old Genesis system recently cause my DC wasn't cutting it for Gen ROMS.

Oh well, I wonder how much a used X-Box will run me.

Do I need to mod it at all to run SNES and GEN games?

Probably, though I have never tried on an unmodded xbox.

Modding an x-box is insanely simple.

Can I do it myself or do I need to get some chip of eBay or something.

The forums you guys linked seem pretty infatuated with 360 and don't have much information on modding regular X-Box'.

I know I could probably google it, but I'm lazy~

Used XBox should run you $75-$100. Putting a larger drive in it is the hardest part about the "mod".

Modding a regular xbox is a joke. You will need to buy a mod chip, most don’t even require you solder anything anymore. 20 minutes you can have a new drive and a modded xbox. You can download and burn a Slayers ISO and have the software installed in about 30 minutes.

Thats the chip I got for my XBox mod. It actually took me about 3 hours to mod my XBox with my friend who has mod'd about a dozen XBoxs in the past due to the fact that my mod chip had a wire that needed to be adjusted for tension so that it would stay in the right pin and we kept running into problems with it staying put.

After that it took another 4 or 5 hours to transfer all the files from his XBox to mine so that I would have a repisitory of all the NES / Genesis / SNES / TG16 / N-64 / MAME / NeoGeo games ever made.

My Xbox is "soft modded" so no chip was required. It was actually a bit of work to get it up and running with a new 120GB drive.

Well from what I've read I'm already pretty confused.

I'll keep reading till some of this makes a little more sense.

Buy a no solder chip. It's the easiest way to get what you want.

Installing the chip won't be the problem. It’s gonna be all the hoopla with flashing the bios and installing the OS that has be scratching my head.

Download a slayers ISO. Create a CD. Put it in the drive and follow the instructions :)

The jargon seems confusing to me. Without trying anything for myself, I'm confused.

Buy a box, tinker with it. It's fun.
