WSOP Day 1

Postby DangerPaul » Mon Jul 31, 2006 11:40 am

Total chaos, there was entirely too many people packed into a small area. Thank god they were not allowing spectators until people started getting knocked out to keep congestion low.

The WSOP is a total circus anymore, I remember watching it at Binion's 10 years ago and thinking it was so cool. Internet fucked up something else, cong.

OK, onto my day. You ever seen over 40 hands of rags in a row? I seriously did not have a playable hand for almost the first 40, cong the table on stealing my blinds all morning. Buzzer beeps, 2 minutes until break, good, I need a cigarette and want to take a piss since I was jacked on Mt Dew. Sweet, I am getting the last hand of being in the big blind before break, I save myself $100 and might get to limp into a pot.

First card, 3 of hearts. Second card 4 of hearts. A couple of callers, no raisers, SWEET, I actually limp into a pot with my big blind. Flop comes, 5 of hearts, 6 of hearts and 6 of spades. Straight draw, flush draw and straight flush draw, with low enough bets I can see the turn. One bet of $200 down the way from a kid who won his seat on the internet, and the other three guys fold. Is $200 worth the turn for me, sure it is, I call. Turn card 7 of hearts, holy shit the stone cold nuts by the turn, play it slow Paul, do not show your hand with a stupid bet or expression. The guy bets $500, obviously he had a 6 in his hand and caught a set on the flop and he is slow playing me. River card hits a 5 of clubs. Fucking awesome, I got the stone cold nuts, he either has a set, full house, straight or flush, play it right old Paully, don't chase him from the pot. He bets $1000, omg, I think I just came in my pants. I reraise to $3500, tee hee, please oh please call. He reraises all in. OMG, I just doubled up on the first hand I got to play. Call and throw my cards giggling like a school girl.

He turns his hand over... 8 and 9 of hearts... I fucking hate poker, I think I am retiring for another 7 years from playing.

That is why I don't play cards with other people for "real" money.

Man Paul, that's a hard beat bro. The only thing that would have beat that would've been an immaculate read. Then again that would have been the laydown of the century. Personally, I woulda put that guy on pocket 6 and called his all in like you did. Tough beat bro but he played it right and you definately did as well.

What's sad also is at my local card room they have bad beat jackpots here and that hand would've won you 12,000.

Some talent agent from Hollywood won this year's World Series of Poker and took home the grand prize of $12 million.
