Laptop that can play BF2

Postby Naethyn » Tue Aug 01, 2006 1:40 pm

I've never owned a laptop. Battery life isnt super important but the longer the better I guess. Widescreen would be my ideal choice for a monitor. As far as drives are concern its not to important. I want it to be able to play BF2. I'm having trouble finding reviews on any of the mobile processors or the mobile graphics cards. Any recommedations would be welcome

To play it with any decent quality your looking at a high end gaming laptop. Ultimatly it will come down to how much do you want to pay for it. Any gaming quality laptop you find will be widescreen so that wont be much of an issue. As for graphics cards, you looking at the same thign as for a desktop, nvidia or ATI.

the xps 1710 is a pretty slick system, or you can get an inspiron 1705 with true life, upgraded vid card and 2 gigs and be set.

As of now, BF2 doesn't support widescreen resolutions. You actually have to trick it to do widescreen, and even then you are cutting off part of the actual game. But in doing that, you are losing a good bit of FPS. For instance, I can run Half-Life 2, which supports widescreen with near full settings in widescreen and get around 25-30 FPS. Running BF2 with lowest settings possible before forcing widescreen is about 8, and with forced widescreen about 16 FPS avg.

That one is less than 1000 and should play BF2 ok. It's REALLY big and heavy though and has horseshit battery life. I've had mine for a year or two though and it's a rock solid machine.
