I need a laptop that can play WoW, Oblivion, and other fine games!

But it also needs be able to do my homework on for college etc.

And how about wireless internets? Are those any good yet or are they still horseshit?

If I were you, I'd wait a couple of months for the Core 2's to become more available (Intel Core 2s are faster and use less power than AMDs). Also, the new video cards that should come out this Fall will also be better with less power as well.

Actually something that just plays wow/EQ would be good enough, I can't imagine trying to play oblivion on a laptop.

My laptop plays Oblivion just fine.

Tangent:

Intel is so full of shit, I don't trust any of their marketing bullshit. They've been getting their asses kicked by AMD for almost 20 years yet their BS marketing continues to win them huge contracts year after year.

Start there and just customize it similar or exactly the same as details provided. You can probably bring the price down a bit if you wanted.

Core 2 info isn't just marketing. Check out any hardware site if you want to see for yourself (such as anandtech.com). There is no doubt that they are now significantly ahead of AMD at the high end of the market.

I have the Intel Core 2 Duo's in house right now and am testing them....

My first instinct from using the two test machines is that the AMD Athlon X2 64 5000 Socket AM2 processor with DDR2 memory fucking kills the BEST 1200 dollar Intel Core 2 Extreme Edition Processor which runs at 2.93GHz.

I'll tell you what the benchmarks say in a week or two.

AMD spanks Intel on desktop processors. I really have no clue about the laptop processors because really it doesn't matter since we aren't manufacturing them.

Also if you buy a Dell I would suggest getting a warranty that covers the ENTIRE time you intend to keep that laptop.

Then I would sell the thing on eBay 3 months before the warranty ends and buy a new one.

The Inspiron and XPS M1710 lines of computers have had consistent component failures across the board.

I personally am a much bigger fan of the Sony VAIO line of computers, followed closely by Acer. Acer's are better quality and lower priced, but have limited options and support.

Extended warranties are your friends.

AMD bought ATI...should be interesting...

? When? I thought AMD was going into some sort of partnership with NVIDIA to team up and kill Intel.

Oh the only reason to buy a Dell is if you really need a high end gfx card in your laptop. If you don't want that get another brand.

PS The Acer laptops with CrystalBrite screens pwn the best screens on the M1710.

Ralph, if you're going to make a run at being in the computer business, you should really try to stay current.

One, guessing that anything from AMD is better than the better Core 2 processors shows ignorance, but it is even worse to actually express ignorance at the AMD / ATI merger.

Let me help you. Read these websites (for added benefit I'm linking to recent reviews of the Core 2 Duo from Intel):
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/sh ... spx?i=2802
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1 ... 005,00.asp
http://www.techreport.com/reviews/2006q ... dex.x?pg=1
http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/08/02/thg_tuning_test/

There are more but I don't want to lose you given your short attention span.

How the hell do you think you can run a computer company but also think that anyone will want to read your opinion on this shit on your website? :eyecrazy:

You're a funny guy, but I'm never ever taking any computer advice or purchasing anything from you.

Maybe you should try reading comprehension first clownass. Did I not fucking say that I just got the stuff in house and was testing both new additions from AMD and intel and would let you know what the benchmarks have to say?

I'll tell you this the "snap" that you see when using say an Apple system, ie how fast the system appears to work is more prevalent at first look with the high end dual core AMD processors than compared to Intel's new Core Duo. The benchmarks will be the real true test.

Listen those reviews are great... I read them all but until I see those performance gains on machines that will eventually be built to make it to market, in house, I tend not to make any real judgements.

But just so you know... Machines I produce at say the 3k price point, tend to pull over 130+ FPS at max settings on games like Doom 3, FEAR and get 3dMark06 scores in the 9k area. Go buy yourself a Dell or Alienware for the same money and see where they are at ; )

Defiantly upgrade the display to
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA Display with TrueLife (should be like $10) you will not be sorry.
or if you can
15.4 inch UltraSharpâ„¢ Wide Screen SXGA+ Display with TrueLife

I would also spend the extra $30 to get
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™Go 7300 TurboCache (Wish it were an option when I got mine, would have done it for sure)

Looks like a good box.
