You do know that real schools like the University of <insert state name here> have completely on-line MBA programs.

Do you really think you're going to beat out someone with an MBA from say... Ohio State for a job with an MBA from Jones Interneverheard U?

There's nothing wrong with online - the technology has grown enough to benefit everyone. But, you have this very weird affinity for no name, boarder line degree mill, here's some credit hours for masturbating, get your degree in 24 hours!, type schools... Just because they boast of accredidation don't make it so...

http://www.degree.net/guides/accreditation_guide.html

You can find an MBA program offered through a well known reputable school for just as much (in terms of tuition) if not less than what you're gonna pay with degree mill international.

Unless you already know ahead of time that said big unversities won't accept your current BS.

OMG. Do you know why distance-learning programs are so popular now? SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO COMMUTE TO A CAMPUS. How many more times do you need to hear that before it sinks in?

you stupid motherfucker

did you even read what he wrote?

he asked why you picked charter oak instead of an actual prestigious college that offers distance learning?

And I answered him in the next post. Way to pay attention. I hope you pay more attention to detail when you're building cellular networks.

You're an idiot.

How much do you make an hour, forklift boy?

Funny how things work out. I went from making 15 dollars an hour, with no degree - to just over 90 thousand dollars a year with a degree.

Bottom line is this... thanks to a college education I can buy and sell your jelly filled ass at will.

It's great having forklift driving high school dropouts telling us all how worthless college is.

Oh and p.s. You might want to look up the def of irony there, jelly roll.

A handful of my friends make 60 thousand a MONTH. How long do you think they remained in school once they landed that?

A college degree isn't going to make you money.

Harrison, statistics prove that a higher education = a higher salary overall. Yes, there are exceptions to the rule, but you need to go by what the majority says... not the individual cases like "The CEO of IBM was a HS dropout" and blah blah blah.

I would generally agree but, lately it is becoming less and less appropriate for me to put myself into debt for a piece of paper that guarantees me nothing.

I am much more apt to put myself into debt on something more concrete like training.

There are a lot of good training programs out there... I won't deny that.

While I will agree that a degree is necessary to do well in life, it most certainly helps. Just think about the number of jobs out there that require a degree to even get an interview. Hell some done even care what degree you have, just that you have 1. You can get very well paying jobs without a degree but it’s more difficult and you usually need to have a significant amount of experience in the field.

i think maybe this has gotten to a bit of a tangent

there's a big difference between being a HS dropout, and a HS dropout with some sort of post secondary training (whether it's a trade, or some sort of work specific curriculum)

I'm actually one of the rare forklift operators certified to work with a lot of things through OSHA that half the time people do without (and can get majorly fucked for if caught).

Since people do it without proper certification, I don't get a job over them. I'm too nice to make an anonymous tip and suddenly "find" an opening too.

I don't know if that's what you meant by "work specific curriculum" or not. It's something I have to get recertified for every year.

The degree/no degree arguement isn't black and white. It's the person. Yeah degree's help, but college is also a money hole for those who have a hard time in school in general or end up on a career path that is opposite of what they studied. In that case, the degree is just debt.

Hey guys, I just watched an insanely interesting program about feral children. Probably only really interesting to me because it was more or less dealing with what my original course of study was going to be when I went back to school.
Any career I want to go into, I must have a degree or cert :(

You know-it's not really an excuse "I don't want to go into debt for school" and this is why.

if you don't go to school, you're still in debt. makes no sense. but if you go to school, doing something you might enjoy or are very good at or both-you're in debt for school loans, but you're doing something that makes you happy and/or more money, depending on what you've chosen to do.

money isn't everything, noone can take away what you KNOW and there's nothing wrong with an education. People who don't respect education are a clear reason why you need one.

can people without a degree/education get jobs that make money? yes! can people that do have a degree/education get jobs that make more money? yes!

my friend too-I hate it for him because he's not really the kind of person who goes to school and if he were, he'd do it by now. It's got nothing to do with how much he'll make when it's over. Bad thing is, the reason he doesn't go is because of how much he has to work, he doesn't see it work out financially.

if you want to go to school, you'll go.

I'm going to school once we get to our first duty station and I can afford to put the kids into day care.
Any career I want to go into (and I plan on going to school for everything I want to do at one point or another, I'll end up like my aunt who is pretty much a life long student) needs a degree as it is all medical.
Back on my aunt, she's been going to college since she was 18, shes now 50something. She just really likes school. She's a doctor, she went back for obstetrics, has a degree in small mechanical repair (like clocks), degree in music, I want to say one in art as well. I think she recently went back to school for another degree.

The chick that came to temp for us in our office got 90% day care covered, free books, and classes because of the program she was in. Dig dig dig, ask ask ask, you'll find those programs and it will take a LOAD off when it's time to go. I'm looking at online classes now-just realized they offer them in four of the classes I need and I only need five. I have no reason not to be going either =\

I cant do distance learning. I've already tried. I need to go to a class and have someone else teach me, preferably hands on.

I'll be going to school starting sometime next year. I have to wait for the baby to even be old enough to get into a center, as most dont take infants under 6 months. Some take them as young as 6 weeks, but I'd rather keep my child until he's a little older than that. I'll be going soon enogh )

Darcler, most distance learning institutions use the same exact text books as you'll find at a brick-and-mortar campus, and they use a system called Blackboard. You can check them out at http://www.blackboard.com. The professor gives you his office number and email if you're stuck on anything. There's also a forum on blackboard where you can ask other students in your class about something.

She cant do distance learning becauses she needs to actually goto classes. Some people just cant do the online thing, she is one of them.

/blog, cont'd.

So I deposited a check for $1000 in a B of A branch yesterday, and got cash back for $40. I checked my account online today and saw the deposit for $960 (which was correct) but also a withdrawal for $200. I'm like... :umno:

So I called the 800# on B of A's website, and the girl I talked to said that they don't handle issues like that, and that she'd have to transfer me to the fraud/claims division. So she transferred me over, and after waiting for about 7 minutes, a rep came on the line. I told him what happened, and he said, "We don't handle those kinds of issues here. You'll have to call the branch where it happened." He gave me the # for that branch, so I called. The number was disconnected. Then I do an online search for the B of A branch where I made my deposit, and I got the correct number.

I talked to the branch manager and told him that there was an erroneous withdrawal against my account for $200, and he said "Well, I'm with a client right now. Can I have your number and I'll call you right back?" Um, my blood was beginning to boil at this point. So I said, "Yeah, I'll give you my number, but I want a call back today." He said, "No problem sir, I'll investigate the matter and give you a call back today." So, an hour later he calls me back and says, "I found out what happened... after you made your deposit, the teller forgot to clear out the screen, so the guy who was in line behind you withdrew $200, and it came out of your account. We're reversing the transaction now, and everything should be back to normal within 72 hours." I thanked him for his time and for correcting the error.

Now, I know that mistakes happen, but... all I have to say is BANK OF AMERICA SUCKS.
