Well, I don't see myself getting married. But I wanted to, I'd definitely consider this guy material. I mean, he's almost retired, he's going to be gone, and she's already known him forever.

exes are only deemed so when you put out and then take it away from them. You "exed" them. until then you should refer to it as "dated" someone, cause you didn't go far enough to ex them.
