Like I said oh, about 4 or 5 times now... you can disagree with the law but it's still there no matter how hard you try to ignore it.

You got the brush of because you couldn't work Saturday. The same brush off if you had said, "I can't work saturday because that's my poker night"

Discriminatory Practices
Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), it is illegal to discriminate in any aspect of employment, including:

hiring and firing;
compensation, assignment, or classification of employees;
transfer, promotion, layoff, or recall;
job advertisements;
recruitment;
testing;
use of company facilities;
training and apprenticeship programs;
fringe benefits;
pay, retirement plans, and disability leave; or
other terms and conditions of employment.
Discriminatory practices under these laws also include:

harassment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or age;
retaliation against an individual for filing a charge of discrimination, participating in an investigation, or opposing discriminatory practices;
employment decisions based on stereotypes or assumptions about the abilities, traits, or performance of individuals of a certain sex, race, age, religion, or ethnic group, or individuals with disabilities; and
denying employment opportunities to a person because of marriage to, or association with, an individual of a particular race, religion, national origin, or an individual with a disability. Title VII also prohibits discrimination because of participation in schools or places of worship associated with a particular racial, ethnic, or religious group.
Employers are required to post notices to all employees advising them of their rights under the laws EEOC enforces and their right to be free from retaliation. Such notices must be accessible, as needed, to persons with visual or other disabilities that affect reading.

Note: Many states and municipalities also have enacted protections against discrimination and harassment based on sexual orientation, status as a parent, marital status and political affiliation. For information, please contact the EEOC District Office nearest you.

Are you listening to yourself? lol this is getting more and more funny as we go along.

Did she even mention religion to you? No, she said they needed someone to work weekends.

Did you mention religion to her? No, you said you needed weekends off.

You've got the weekend and religion so wrapped together in your head you can't see what's plain to everyone else. It wasn't your religion she was objecting to...it was the hours you were available. That you're not available due to your religion is your own business and doesn't enter into it at all.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

Yes, I did. I told her I was a Seventh-Day Adventist and that I don't work sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. That's when her face turned from a smile to an evil grimace.

She was probably reacting to the fact that a great candidate didn't qualify for the schedule they needed to fill.

it's probably that she went from thinking she had someone to fill the weekend shift, to realizing she nowhad to wade thru 5-10 more interviews

That's possible... I won't deny that. But it was probably more along the lines of discrimination.

Why don't you cite the part of the law that allows employers to not hire when those religious beliefs or physical disabilities interfer with the ability to perform the job?

Quakers don't apply to be marine snipers then say "Oh but I can't actually shoot anybody."

Don't be dumb.

They were hiring full-time lumber department people. "Weekends" = 16-20 hours.

Atleast you admit its possible.

Hmm actually, now that I think about it, just saying its possible should mean you wouldn't win in court being as you have to prove beyond a reasonably doubt it was discrimination which you never could. They could probably come back and sue you.

You're applying for full time (40 hours/wk). Let's say the job for example is Tue.-Sat. 2p-10p. Okay well you can't work a bunch of those hours because of your religion/life happenings whatever. So, you're trying to tell everyone here that they should have bent over backwards and change everyone else's schedule to fit you in. They would have told you no no matter what your reasons were for not working the weekends. If they need certain hours filled and you apply but can't do those hours, they have every right to pass on you.

That's the card they try to play, but they still lose in court.

how were you going to manage to work 16-20 hours in a single day (since you'd already overruled working saturday)

LOL holy shit. Let's do some simple math for a moment shall we?

If you're on a 5/8 schedule, that means you work 5 days at 8 hours per day. If you're on a 4/10 schedule, that means you work 4 days at 10 hours per day. So if your schedule is say, for instance, Wednesday-Sunday. How many hours did you work on the weekend?

What should they have done, hired you and moved somone who was already working to Saturdays because you couldn't work that day? Or do they need to hire a second person to cover you on Saturday?

This is all of us talking to you that are feeling that way. I'm not saying anything I said above as a personal shot. I'm some how guessing this lady wasn't thinking "Fucking religious nutbag, I'm going to cut his ass here and now!" I agree you sounded more than qualified skill-wise but if they didn't have the hours you can't expect them to tailor the hours to fit you. How would that be fair to anyone else?
