I think people should work with what they have naturally in order to get the best results in any style. In other words, when I try to put any kind of curl in my hair, it usually ends up that I've done a lot of work for nothing. when I try to make my hair go into a direction it isn't meant to go...it ends up looking just like that. something that isn't meant to be.
take what you have and work with that. Personally, I am of the opinion that curly hair needs to be long and flowing.
You have many options with long hair-you can bun it up and let some side-bangs fall beside your face, or pigtails, braids, little mini-buns in the back of your hair (usually two) with some pins holding free pieces back. there are so many cute things you can do with long hair to make it seem as though you don't have just one style. (at least that is what I do with my hair in order to keep from getting bored.)
consider any cowlicks and where your natural part is, also.
When I or my girl cuts my hair...I also make her cut it two different ways. She starts out with everything and when she's all done, I pull it back to reveal front/side bangs and she cuts those separate. It looks like I have two different hair styles. which was my goal.
take some time to think about your face, your clothes, and your individual style and put some ideas on it. mix and match-think bangs, think short bangs. think long bangs. no bangs.
think layers, or no layers. or long layers.. think about what you can do to enhance your features. you have huge eyes and a huge smile...girls with those features look AMAZING with short hair, although I am not sure I would attempt the style in that photo...but I only say that because it's a straight style and you're curly. I also say that with the idea in mind that it must take a lot of work to make her hair look like that. I can't imagine spending any more time than ten minutes on my hair, so I have chosen a style that allows minimal prep time. consider how much time you're willing to spend on your hair, is what I mean hehe.
