Sleep paralysis

Postby DESX » Sun Sep 10, 2006 9:52 pm

Wondering how many people exactly have experienced this and how many times. Just happened to me again last night. This crap sucks because like it says your fully aware and everything but no ability at all to move. All you fucking see is black. Anyway my gf came into the room used my computer and started playing some music. I could hear everything she was doing and the exact music that was playing and everything. I finally snapped out of it after being in it for like 15 mins. This has happened to me like 10 times or so that I can remember once for about a week straight.

Another thing that I also experience probably 30% of the time is lucid dreaming which is dreaming but knowning that you are dreaming and have control of the content of your dream. Lucid dreaming is very......different feeling though then any other kind of dreaming. Like times that I was talking to my grandpa and grandma on my moms side that died. I would have never normally remembered those times but it feels like I knew every single detail that I said to them while dreaming.

Anyway just wondering how many people go through this.

I had it happen fairly often when I was younger. I have not experienced it several years but from what I recall, it was pretty terrifying.

Yes it varies from person. My brother also had it a few years back. He actually used to moan in his sleep. He told me that when he did this and if I heard to go to his room and shake him until he woke up. Before when this happened to me I also used to hear unbelivably loud screaming for some reason.

I have never expierenced sleep paralysis. I have expierenced lucid dreaming on a number of occasions, I have never tried to self induce lucid dreaming however. The first time was a bit frightening because while being aware I was dreaming, I was not aware I was in control at first.. and it turned sort of nighmarish before I realized my thoughts were controling it.

bah..it is just the remains of a dream as you drift into reality..this happens to me all the time

My Opinion:

It isn't fricking paralysis unless you don't wake up from it, if you ask me...it is just part of nightmares, I figure...perhaps I don't understand what exactly they are saying, so I will give you an example.

Example:

I am dreaming that someone is on top of me and won't get off. So I cry and struggle and it feels very real, but of course I then wake up to reality and realize it isn't real. I cry for about five or ten minutes until I am finally in reality...then I realize that I can move again. I then lay awake for another half an hour in hopes the dream won't come back. Perhaos this is just nightmare, but perhaps that is all sleep paralysis is in the end.

oh..and btw des, they say that, when you dream of a loved one who has died, it means your mind has completely wrapped itself around and accepted their death...I dreampt of my grandma too..and I remembered the dream so vividly, but I can barely remember much now...I remember her saying,"Don't let them piss you off."

I said,"Don't worry, Grandma." And that was it. Up until I realized I was talking to my dead grandma, the dream was flying by like any other dream. I was so sad when I woke up. I must have cried for hours.

ok that should do it for ammo for you trolls:) oh look, I still don't give a fuck

I have woken up before and not being able to move anything. Its a little freaky, but everytime I do it for some reason I think someone is breaking in and it seems like I just lie there and listen to noises of the house creaking for hours.

People used to think that sleep paralysis was caused by a Succubus or Incubus.

i've never had the paralysis thing, but i've definitely had lucid dreaming.

sometimes i'll be dreaming and i'll know that i'm dreaming and i'll wake up and i'll make myself go back to sleep so i can finish the dream where i left off. ^^

When I know that I'm dreaming within a dream I go and jablown my enemies and bang supermodels and hot celebrities.

no, you're missing it

you'll be awake

your eyes are generally open (mine are anyways)

maybe can move your head a bit, but you can't move your arms, legs, etc

you definately can't move your mouth or tongue, but can maybe moan/groan/squeel a bit

and for, i dunno about others, there's always this sense of impending doom or despair when it happens

it hasn't happened in years, and I never really tied any kind of event to it

oh man, that would freak me the fuck out. luckily i've never experienced anything like that.

only kinda shit i deal with when i manage to fall asleep is waking up real quick like cause i feel like i'm about to take a dive. i don't even remember dreams 99% of the time. sleep sucks.

I've experienced this as well. Not a particularily fun occurance I must say. I usually feel really panicky when it does happen and struggle until I finally gain control of my body.
