but I don't want to pay anywhere near retail for one (cause I don't think i'll use it that much)

Yeah, they had some problems with some dead pixels so make sure to ask the seller about it if you buy it off ebay.

I have one dead pixel on my DS lite.

actually none of those even remotely appeal to me

brain age, the final fantasy games, and maybe metroid (the metroid using the stylus as a mouse for fps is amazing btw)

They didn't appeal to me either at first but they are all pretty addicting, especially trauma center and kirby for the stylus use. If you haven't played them, rent them at least, maybe you'll like them.
