Darcler, get a pump. You can keep your nipples moisturized better that way anyway in between feedings...you get relief from the milk and tenderness and baby pop can feed him also. Plus you can freeze it I think.

I am pumping but my nipples still feel horrid.
I also cant wake him up every couple hours to feed him and I save pumping for after I give him a bottle so I have a bottle to hold what I pump out, but those times where he wont wake up to eat, my boobs fill up and hurt. I dont know how the nurses woke him up in the nursery to feed him. I've tried everything I can think of...changing his diaper, undressing and redressing him, wiping his face with a wet cloth, playing with his feet. It will get him to open his eyes, but as soon as I put him in my arms to feed him, he's out cold again. It's getting old.

Darcler, check with yourpediatrician, but I am almost positive that mine told me not to wake mine up. Let them sleep when they are tired. It will take a few months, but he will get on the same sleep schedule as you are. Pump when your breasts get full when he is sleeping, or jump in the shower and let the warm water run on your breasts and express some of it. YOur body makes more than what the baby needs.

Silvy is right:

Ok..here is my advice.

Firstly, sleep when baby sleeps. This means EVERY TIME baby sleeps. Even if it is during the day. If someone tells you that you are being lazy, let them keep the baby overnight and see how they like broken sleep. You need healthy sleep. By healthy, I mean unbroken. Gid can also help by waking up and rubbing your back for a few minutes and telling you he loves you when baby wakes you up in the middle of the night. I am sure he loves you greatly and is very proud that you had his child. So don't let yourself start resenting him for being "free" from responsibility. Remember, it is a good thing he even stuck around after he got you pregnant and now he must work to support you guys, which I am sure he is doing happily.

Secondly, take warm showers and massage your breasts when they are feeling too full and baby isn't hungry. When you breastfeed, it takes sometime for the milk to regulate to the way baby eats. There is also cream you can get at the store in a purple tube that eases pain of drying nipples, if you have that problem. Trust me on the warm shower tit massage, it really works. Let the water beat down on your breasts and drain the milk with your fingers. Gidan can help here! And Gid, don't be afraid of breast milk. It is good and good for you!

If you get too depressed, I will give you my phone number and you can call me and I will cheer you up.

Above all, just remember that this baby is not going to be a little bitty baby forever. Soon, they get mouthy and rude and ungrateful and...what was I talking about? Oh ya! Babies are truly the best thing that ever happens to people. They ARE you. They are the closest thing to a miracle you will ever see. Be sure not to miss out on these moments.

Anyway, I am going to surf around and read a few topics before I go back to bed. I was up half the night going insane because I couldn't sleep.

Yours,
Amanda

He doesnt like the taste or texture of the boobie creams. He wont latch on if I put it on, even if I wipe it off. I am using cold compacts after pumping.
I cant sleep during the day. I have a 2 year old daughter. I'm sure having a 2 year old running around unsupervised would have CPS wagging their finger at me.
I went through my supply of titmilk from the fridge last night, too tired to get more, holy shit my boobs hurt this morning.

On a good note, he is more awake this morning. Slightly, but he's still awake.
I go see his ped. tomorrow. The nurses told me to wake him up to eat, at least these first weeks or month or so. Then we can start letting him sleep and eating on demand. I think it's somewhere in the little manual they gave me too. Wake him up eveyr 3 hours for breastfeeding, every 4 if we were formula feeding....which I am still considering switching to. I dont eat right enough and I dont remember to take prenatals so I'm not too sure how great that is for him.

Screw the "manual". Every child is different and for any expert to say you should treat them the same is foolish. Feed on demand if that's what you want to do and it's easier on you. Your milk will adjust...it'll be uncomfortable for a couple days, though. When you pump and breastfeed at the same time you're putting your body into overdrive as far as milk production.

The nutrients the baby needs are in your breastmilk....plus that natural immunity he'll get from breastfeeding. You'll be the one paying for it if you don't eat right. Your body will pull it from your bones and tissues.
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

Exactly. I dont eat. I havent gotten my appetite back from when I had him. The only things I really remember eating since I have been out of the hospital have been a TV dinner lasagna, a snack pack of oreos and I had part of a pork chop and some noodles and veggies last night. I'm thirsty as all hell all the time, but I feel sick if I eat when I'm not hungry. I have a DR. appt soon.

Anyway, I'm counting wet/dirty diapers and he has no shortage of those so I am sure we're doing ok. Just wish he were a tad more active.

He's a newborn. They aren't very active at first. They pretty much lay there, eat, poop and pee with the occasional cry if one of those needs isn't met.

Needs to be awake to eat, eh? Or at least in the beginning.

I hate this "blob stage" that babies go through. I am much like my dad, I begin to be interested when they can do tricks.

Darc you really don't have to wake him up to feed him, he's tired let him sleep. I let mine sleep. I meant you should pump during those times when your breast fill up and he's not ready to eat. And, because he doesn't like the creams, which I figured...you can pump more, still using your breast milk but giving your nipples a break from him...and you can use your creams. I hope you get some rest and everyone is good. =) babies are neat =)

He's much more active today. I think it was just a sleepy stage.
I made 4 bottles out of one pump session. Wow. I was too distracted to make more all day long since I was having to watch my daughter also, so I was a little sore by the time Gid got here at 5:30.

I am totally done. My pregnancy history sealed the deal, Gid is getting the snip one day. Besides, the world was made for a family of 4.

sure got that right

i always wish i lived in the old west where i could just stay home all day and garden and make bread and stuff while my 6-10 kids ran around playing outside..never worrying how sexy they look or whether they have the most hip video game...

then I remember there was marshall law

hey..you guys knew I got a new ferret, right?

Miss Kitty now has a complimentary Marshall DIllon! MAN, he is a big fucker! Male ferrets are twice as big as females. Of course, Miss Kitty seems way smarter.

If you are done why is he getting snipped? Maybe you should do the task and get tied.
