I was being sarcastic. The author of the article referred to a diploma as a degree - which are two entirely different things. I stopped reading it at that point.

Harri, find your self a tool and die apprenticeship. After 5 years and your journeyman's card, you'll be making $40/hr in a union shop, doing challenging work on more than likely a swing schedule like I work. (5 days on, 4 off, 4 on, 5 off rinse repeat) There are so very few young people picking up skilled trades anymore that there is a serious vaccum for toolmakers right now in most parts of the country. And there's little worry about outsourcing for a number of reasons, although it's possible, it's unlikely you'd ever lose your job over it.

If you've got decent or above average math comprehension, and like the idea of building stuff with your own hands that's more precise and complex than most people can even comprehend, look into it.

Harrison, if you're within commuting distance of Boston, you might want to check this company out. They are a subsidiary of Sysco. You will work your ass off loading trucks for the drivers, but you'll be hard-pressed to find a company that has a better compensation/benefits package.

They have those pallet jacks (not forklifts) that you ride around on. Sometimes we (the drivers) have to bring extra product back to the chill at the end of the route that the warehouse guys overstacked in the truck. They haul ass on those pallet jacks.

No, not the suggestions, the harping on the education/giving him shit based on what he's doing. some people meant well so I shouldn't have said "everyone"

Edit: In closing, I am a picky motherfucker when it comes to how I am spending up to 50-60 hours of my life a week. Some people say "a job is a job, do it and get it over with". I see it as "I am spending 10 hours of my day possibly more, I might as well have it somewhat enjoyable or at worst bearable.

I don't have time to read the rest of the thread, but one of my best friends is looking for someone to run / work in his warehouse. He lives in Orange County and has had awful luck with the people he's hired so far (a few former criminals in a row, and his GC won't let him run background tests b/c he doesn't do it standard for everyone).

You're prolly not willing to relocate, but let me know if you're interested

EDIT: okay, the thread wasn't as long as most of the threads of this topic, so I now have read the whole whopping 2 pages, lol
