Lack of Tackling

Postby Diekan » Sun Sep 17, 2006 4:46 pm

I've noticed a HUGE trend in both college and NFL. Motherfuckers can't tackle for shit anymore. It's like they've forgotten that using your arms actually increases your chances of success. The days of actually wrapping your arms around the reciever / back / whatever are gone.

All I see is a bunch of fuckstains bouncing off each other and no one really making an effort to BRING THE FM'ER DOWN.

Am I the only one who's noticed this trend?

nope

it bothers me too

I was watching the Steelers game last week, and some commentator was talking about how good of a tackler Palamalu is

wtf

I've never seen a dude who just throws his body at a guy without wrapping up as much before

granted, he does take the guy down a lot, but I've seen him miss a lot of tackles that way too

ps, imagine how awesome he'd be if he did have good tackling form

pps that being said, he's in the NFL as a premiere SS and I'm not so he must be doing something right

Everyone is going for the big hit so they can get on the highlight shows. This is the ESPN Sportcenter mentality.

Ever make a tackle trying to wrap the guy up, and either your angle is off, or he makes a move, you end up arm tackling him? That shit -hurts- and is a good way to dislocate a shoulder. It's easier on lineman with bigger arms and at the line of scrimmage where no one has reached full speed. But trying to wrap up in the open field isn't as easy as it sounds. I'm not making an excuse for poor tackling, I'm just saying if you don't see 180-200 pound FS's, CB's, and SS's making a real effort to wrap up that 240 lb dude that's at his 4.4/40 speed, there's a reason.

No, it's not blanket weaving. It is 4 preseason games, 17 regular games, playoffs, and harder hits than it looks like on TV. Staying healthy is a prerequisite to keeping your job.
