The Senate unanimously approved a record Pentagon budget today. The bill, now on its way to the White House for Bush's signature, totals $448 billion. It was passed by a 100-0 vote after minimal debate.

The bill provides $378 billion for core Pentagon programs and $70 billion for Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to the Congressional Research Service, Congress has now approved $507 billion for Iraq, Afghanistan and heightened security at overseas military bases since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The war in Iraq has cost $379 billion and the conflict in Afghanistan now totals $97 billion.

If people get pissed off at this then maybe they should vote Libertarian in the next elections.

Only if it will help a Republican get elected again, because the Libertarians will never win. I threw my vote away when I voted for Perot in 92. I'm still pissed off about that. He got 19% of the vote, basically handing the election to slick willie. :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x :-x

Perot was a bit off. He more than likely would have won had he not dropped out half way through the race and just kept his mouth shut during the debate. Those two events turned him off to too many people.
Maybe the Libertarians will not win a major election, but every vote for them makes those in power take notice and may move us to more sensible government.

They call this, bear with me, voting. I know how difficult this reading thing may be for you, so I'll do you the work of providing a definition.

Want to explain that one? How does voting allow you to decide where you want your tax dollars to go?

I am really not in the mood to type out a book here, I'll try to keep it short which usually kills my message entirely. :(

While voting for certain individuals into certain positions who you hope will do the things you want them to won't guarantee any returns, it sure as hell isn't hurting your position.

You don't want money spent on X, write your congressman, write your mayor, write someone. Vote for someone opposed to X, do something.

I doubt Spazz is even registered to vote, being against THE MAN and all...

Let me clear this up for you. Voting does not give you any say in where your tax dollars go. Voting gives you the smallest amount of say in picking the person who will decide how he/she is going to vote in regard to spending your tax dollars. There is a very large difference.

That sure is a hell of a lot more effective than, say, posting on a messageboard about it.

Well, that depends on what you're voting on and for.

Not voting isn't an option in my eyes.

A "useless" vote (say, voting for Bush in Massachusetts versus Kerry?) is better than no vote.
