As long as criminals have guns, everyone should have a right to own one as well.

That logic can lead to a very scary place.
For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.

As it is now, it's generally already that place.

Everyone without a criminal record for all intents and purposes can own a firearm.

I was thinking further ahead. The idea that if the criminals have it, then everyone else should have the right to can go places we really dont want to go.

With out government being as corrupt and power hungry as they are? Sorry - but a disarmed public is MORE scary than everyone having a gun.

If YOU want to live in a country were the government tells you what you're going to do for a living, where you're going to live, how many kids you can have, whether you can or can't go to college - go ahead and take away guns and you'll get your wish.

what does banning weapons that daily kill people have to do with living in a country where the gov tells you what to do for a living, where to live, how many kids and whether or not you can go to college?

it's a right that we have that was made 200 years ago..I'm not saying take away the right. I'm saying, only allow weapons for hunting and make people go through a ridiculously long process of screenings. take shit seriously...put the smack down on this bullshit. we're a great country nothing is hopeless.

No simple bitch. First of all most guns that kill people arent legal registered weapons. Second i dont know where you live but i have detroit right down the street and break ins and home and self defense is very important to me. Legal gun owners and people who legally carry guns are not the problem criminals are. If you ban and make gun ownership harder all you do is make it harder for PEOPLE WHO DONT INTEND TO COMMIT CRIMES to own firearms. You can look at it and say what you want but the stats will back my opinion not yours up.

You are wrong. Statistics show crime rate and guns per capita aren't consistantly hand and hand. Some places more guns less crime and vice versa.

my paranoid father sleeps with guns under the bed, he wakes up all hours of the night thinking someone is breaking in. one night, he was dreaming when he thought the roof was caving in...what in the world would happen if something were to happen and he wasn't there to protect everyone and what he owns?

also...I have no guns, lock my doors and sleep well at night. I am afraid of guns, if one were to ever be near me I'd probably start crying. I've shot them before, I've been hunting and to the shooting range, I shot a twelve-gauge when I was ten years old. today, I'm terrified of them and believe that it should be a lock down situation-get rid of weapons not intended for hunting. I don't think it'd be that hard. will it ever happen? no. I can't believe how long it takes for things to get so bad before they become an issue based on it's popularity in the topic contest or how inconvenient it is to rob people of their "rights" when it's only a right because the people who ran this country 200 years ago made it one.

I am as afraid for my son&niece when they are hanging out with the g-parents with the guns...as my dad is afraid for the family/house safety. my biggest fear is of being shot though. I am extremely biased here.

Well that's YOU. Just because YOU are afraid of guns doesn't give YOU the right to tell others they can't have them. I hate pop culture with a venom, but I have no right to tell people they can't listen to pop music or watch stupid TV shows.

Spazz is right... if you make guns illegal - the only people that is going to affect are the gun owners who already obey the law. It's going to do NOTHING to stop criminals from getting them. Besides - the guns the criminals carry aren't legal to begin with. By legal I mean, they're either not registered or purphased through legal means - which is how law abiding citizens get them.

You may not like guns, and that's fine. For every story of a 6 year old accidently shooting themselves, there's a story of a woman who saved her own life when a six foot six rapest kicked in her front door.

The guns aren't the problem... why some people can't see that is completely beyond me. Crime isn't a product of free gun ownership. It's a product of society, a product of shitty parenting, a product of poverty, a product of greed, a product of laziness, or the product of a twisted mind - NOT GUNS. If someone is dead set on hurting you - they're going to try, whether they have a gun or not. At least by having the right to own a gun you have the right to defend youself more effectively.

As for the government taking complete power and turning this country into a dictatorship... Here's a little history lesson for you. There were three big reasons why the USSR never invaded the US. First, the ocean... trying to move all the equipment needed across an ocean isn't an easy task. Secondly, we had / have "the bomb." And, third they knew that most Americans owned private firearms. It's a little harder trying to take over a city when everyone (non-military) is shooting at you. Believe it or not, it's a fact.

Your fear of being shot isn't over board. It can happen any place at any time. But, you also have to realize that, again, if the shooter is intending to do YOU harm - they're going to do it whether it's with a gun, a ball bat, a knife, or whatever...

I'm telling you people... if you outlaw guns you're just opening the door for our crime rate to ski rocket higher than it already is.

Why are you so fucking retarded. It is just as relevent now as it was then. There are just as many people and things you need to protect yourself from now as there were then. You wanna see what happens when you ban hand guns????? Look at fucking england. Stabbings goin through the roof, and the biggest baddest thugs rule is supreme becuase there isnt shit you can do to challenge it.

Minrott & Diekan, you've gone on and on in this thread about how useles the current wave of kids is, hwo they have crappy upbringings, no father figure, and effectively that you wouldn't trust them to successfully pick their own noses without supervision, lest they miss and puncture their own eardrums. In short, an entire mass generation of Ruprechts, like in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

This is, in short, your opinion of most of the youth in this country today, correct?

Then, at the same time, you argue for ARMING them, at least in a few years once they hit 18? Um, theyr'e still going to be socially and emotionally retarded, with no sense of proportion or real grasp on right & wrong. Hell, almost all 18 year olds are effectively retarded know-it-alls who lack any meaningful life experience.

Sorry, but I don't want that wave of morons armed with anything deadlier than Nerf products. Yes, they'll have the right to buy arms, but you want them to be able to carry them, concealed, anywhere they go? Uh, not a chance.

I didn't say that spazz, get your head out of your ass for a minute

I said it's fine to have the right but that it should be earned. you want a gun? go get qualified to have one. that's fine with me...I dont' think you're a murderer. what I am saying, is that the gun control is slack and should be air tight.

and I'm curious..do you own a gun right now? legally?

Yes i own a .44 smith and wes 629 classic a .45 glock 21 a pistol grip winchester .12 guage defender and a winchester lever action .44 They are all legal andallregistered to me.

As far as gun controll goes i think that if you pass the background check you should be able to carry EVERYWHERE you go.

Im sorry if i offended you but i take this shit real seriously. I have been robbed and where i live isnt safe. When i hear words like gun controll or the thought of someone making it harder for me to get a gun or get ammo it sends me into a tizzy. Im also a little insane becuase i think owning guns is the last line of defense from the government doing whatever it wants to you. I think Gun controll is allready STRICT enough. Lotta places dont even issues ccw, you cant own a full auto, magazine restrictions , and barrel lengths. Imo these things are all UNCONSTITUTIONAL. In the constitution it doesnt say IF YOU PASS the test you can own and carry it says SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED and i think thats exactly what it ought to mean.

Can you not see that guns are not the problem PEOPLE are? If you got a sullotion to making people unviolent id love to hear it but banning guns wont make for a kinder gentler world.

how is gun control "slack"? do you know the processes involved in buying a handgun? do you know what you have to go through in order to carry a concealed weapon in most states? hell, some states still dont allow their people to carry concealed.

lots of ways to get guns. again, we just disagree. in my opinion, if something is that much of a problem it should be taken away. I see it as a problem and not a solution to a problem.
