maybe

I still think that if they'd just simply finished jabowning britain, THEN went after russia they would have taken it all

The english channel saved them in the end.

Germany could have just steamrolled them if it wasn't a seperation by water.

eh, no it didn't

they just stopped bombing britain day and night, which allowed the brits to get their airfields repaired, and finally launch fighters to counter the bombers

Actually, they were still bombing night and day, but they switched to bombing cities, rather than airfields, factories, radar installations, etc. The RAF was getting ground down, and was inevitably going to lose that air war except Germany switched to terror bombing instead of continuing what it had been doing. Supposedly, the reason they switched is a tiny british air raid against Berlin that did effectively no damage, but embarassed Goering, who'd promised before the war that no allied planes would ever survive to reach Berlin to bomb it.

If that's true, that was probably the single most effective bombing raid of the war, bar none, and not for the damage they did on the ground.

One other factor that isn't generally discussed with regard to WWII, is that it started about 3-4 years before Geramny was really ready for it. They'd planned to go to war all along, but they expected it to start in about 43, to give them time to finish re-arming. They would have had a real navy built up by then, along with > 100 U-Boats, instead of the about 15-20 they had at the start (which still came near to starving out Britain). A lot of the tanks and such that were used in France (PZ-Is & early IIs) were originally just meant to be training tanks, but because of war necessity, they were pressed into service, along with a pair of Hungarian tank designs, the 35(t) and 38(t).

You know... the Germans that fled and went to America (like my grandparents) and a lot of others went to S. America and Canada. It was because they DIDN'T like what Hitler was doing.

i would think "escaping bombs" would have a bit more to do with it for most emigrants

Supposedly, the figures for Russia may well be seriously under-reported. I've seen sources saying they lost closer to in the neighborhood of 35-50million when you considered all factors.

Craziness.

Russian winter also had a big ass effect on driving the germans back. I wanna say the germans lost from like 400,000 to a million from deaths from the cold. Can't be sure on exact figure though.

Do you honestly believe that if the english channel wasn't there that Germany would have had to resort to incessant bombing? (which they fucked up on when they overestimated the RAF's strength and so switched their bombing targets)

Without the english channel, Germany would have steamrolled right in after their successful run at bombing initially, by ground. End of story...

There is no one that will dispute this with any sensible grasp on the Battle of Britain.

no one's saying that if they'd been able to just drive to britain they wouldn't have won easier

the point you're missing is that they would have bombed britain back to the stone ages if they hadn't started a 2 front war, and been able to send a single canoe full of troops to claim what was left
