New Job

Postby Harrison » Fri Oct 13, 2006 6:11 pm

My first week at the new job over.

http://www.hallspars.com

Easily the best job I've had to date, less pay, better atmosphere and potential for advancement. Worth the drop in payrate since it will go up once I am done training.

After 90 days I get 100% tuition reimbursement, so I guess I'll take advantage of that as well.

12 hour days means to me an automatic 4 hours overtime every day, awesome. 12 hours Saturday (optional, as is Sunday) automatic overtime for the entire day, awesome.

Full Dental, and Health...blah blah blah just means I can get my gastrologist back now.

My bosses are my two uncles, one of my cousins who has been there 11 years, and my coworkers include my younger brother, and two more cousins. I don't have to go into great length if I need a personal day since they know everything anyways. On the other hand, I can't just take a day off and make some shit up like a job I didn't care about previously.

I'm replacing one of the engineers building masts for yachts and racing yachts/sailboats etc.

We do other shit but that's not the main focus of the company.

(We make special orders like: Carbon Fiber goalie sticks, assorted aircraft parts, etc. I'm told. I've looked at one of the sticks, I don't care for hockey.)

That's how I do it. It's giving us some extra Christmas money. It's not a lot at all, only $5 to start, but that goes up as you move up in rank, and based on training sessions, yadda yadda yadda.

A bunch of the guys said the same exact thing.

"too heavy"

"WAY too expensive"

"if they could afford it, they'd likely get it for free to begin with"

etc.

I personally don't give a fuck.

mostly it just doesn't make sense
carbon fiber hockey sticks are good for out, cauwe of their flexibility (ie can shoot harder generally)

they also explode like mofo's if they get touched the right/wrong way

just doesn't make sense to make Goal sticks out of it

Maybe its just the stick and not the blade for the goalie sticks?

It's just the stick without the blade. It is heavy as fuck. (it's a solid shaft and not hollowed out)

What state do you live in now? I forget. I just found another work at home job that pays $8 but they are only letting people from a certain state do it now.

Since it was mentioned above, even though it has nothing to do with the thread, I thought I would rant a bit about medical insurance.

So during the 2nd month of pregnancy, the insurance lady at my OB's office pulls me aside and explains my benefits to me. Everything except the original $20 copay is covered by the insurance, unless it is an unneeded procedure. (Like taking a 3 hour glucose test twice, one wouldnt be covered fully)
Well, I go and deliver and a month later, I am getting all these bills. Bills from my OB for the delivery (should be covered), bills by the anesthesiologist (should be covered) bills for sonograms in the hospital when my stress tests were failing (should be covered) bills from the hospital for pharmacy, room, food, supplies (most should be covered).
Fuck United Health right in it's ear. I owe at least 5k to these people after being told that everything would be covered.

I'm in NC now. :)

You sometimes get bills when the health insurance doesn't pay immediately. I'd call your OB and find out if the insurance denied them or if they are just doing a CYA.

harrison I think that's wonderful. friend of ours works for a family-owned company and he's got it made while he's college...works when he can, makes an ass of money, and it's no big deal if he asks off.

good luck to you! Yay!
