How many FPS should I be getting with a Radeon 9600 Saphire 256meg card?

On what?

That is WAY too broad of a question.

a 9600 will probably top out HL1 level graphics with about 70-90fps (depending on other factors)

You could run EQ2 "decent".

I need a more finite range in your question.

SUSE 9.3 Linux

According to the system I am running about 342 FPS.

I thought you meant what FPS you'd be getting on a specific game, or games.

342FPS on your desktop, idle, means dick to me

Your dick must be >---< this big!

I imagine you must be using a 64" HD TV as your monitor so don't take this the wrong way if your monitor sucks.

It might be the monitor... it's a cheap, generic brand. But I don't think the issue lies there.

FPS are meaningless when you don't actually have a clue what you're talking about ;)

Listen idiots. I ask a legit question and expect a legit reply. If you had a clue what you were talking about you'd answer the fucking question.

Unlike you I don't spend hours upon hours sitting alone in my room jacking off to my new issue of PC Magazine.

I have that exact same card and I don't have too many problems with games....other than a beta game that'll remain nameless.

What program are you using to calculate FPS?

I use a very small program called glxgears, which is included in linux distros.

I don't do any gaming any more. And, I'm not having any problems... I'm just curious if anyone knows what the standard FPS is for THAT type of card. Basically, I'm just after if some FYI that I might be able to use to tweek my system to get more, or if I'm already set.

glxgears really is a bad way to judge your vid card. On my 6800 glxgears will very by over 200FPS (full screen) depending on the day. You will also see different FPS on different games depending upon the game and whats going on in that game. You can try and look througt he results published on 3dmarks website for people with similar hardware. Your also going to see a slight loss in performance under linux, ATI sucks at linux drivers.

feel free to show some of your usage of ram. don't care if it's via snmp, or just screen shots of your perf mon

there's not a lot out there right now that'll make use of more than 1 gb of ram

I won't disagree with you there, but Battlefield 2 runs a HELL of a lot smoother, now that I have 2gb's of ram instead of 1. One gig would be fine for BF2 if it was like PC6000 ultra low latency.

I need 2gb for all the shitty programs designed for Windows that have memory leaks.

Without it I would need to restart my PC more often than the once every couple months that I am currently at.

I use a program to flush my memory after I run shit like EQ2 or anything memory intensive.

Fuck restarting...

Its not that simple, there are some system critical processes from a couple different vendors that my machine has to run due to hardware uniqueness. NVidia, Logitech, and a few others. Shutting them down crashes my PC no matter how much I micro manage.
