Poll question

Postby Narrock » Thu Oct 26, 2006 11:41 pm

I can't believe a parent would actually vote "yes" to this piece of trash legislature. This is truly disturbing.

I would normally say it is noone elses business. But there are alot of factors to consider before getting an abortion, and I dont think a teenage girl is mature enough to make that decision without some help, guidance and direction. I won't vote in your damn poll though because once again you made a totally biased poll to achieve the outcome you want. Which I guess I am playing into posting in this thread.

Rehash. Dont like abortions i have some sullutions.

SuggestionA Put down your sign shut the fuck up and adopt a child.

Suggestion B Make sure parents can afford to raise they children. Ya know those welfare broodmares cool people bitch bout paying for. Sorry dudes ya cant have it both ways either let them not have the kid or be willing to help foot the bill cuz they are downontheylucksuckatlifeareretardedaddictedtodrugsetc whatever but the kid still needs to be taken care of. Makes me sick to hear all this prolife shit but know a lot of them are same people against govt assistance , and dont have adopted kids at home.

Suggestion C Realize that forcing someone to carry a child to term as just as horrid a thought as terminating that unborn child.Sorry but when it comes down to someones medical plans no one but the people involved should be involved. People get abortions everday that could have afforded to raise a baby. Babies are born everyday in horrid conditions.

Suggestion D Sorry dudes there is so much horrid shit going on in the world with people allready here that i dont think its allways best to think about the maybe babies. Africa sure looks fucked up.So do a lot of other places all over the world. I bet those people sure wish they had a hand. Its not about who some fertalized cells might become or if god might have made that life when you can allready see suffering ( how many kids in the 3rd world) and could change that

If your against abortion hate it but do something about it besides rehash the same tired ass shit. There ya happy i took the bait. Now you post bout how its not cells its a human being god created and well talk about MURDERING UNBORNBABIES,dems and republicans and go full circle. Shut the fuck up dude everyones allready had this arguement and im sure they dont want to have it again

Ps sorry its long and for any errors its late im tired

There's multiple reasons why it would be good, even necessary for someone to get an abortion without their parents' knowledge. What if their parents are abusive? Look at the statistics of what has happened in states that HAVE passed parental notification laws, there's been a big spike in girls getting permanently injured, dying, being made sterile, as they go the back-alley route to avoid having to tell parents that may beat them bloody for having gotten pregnant.

Odds are high if a girl has a good relationship with her parents, she'll tell them anyway. If she doesn't want to tell them, odds are high there's pretty serious reasons why. I would hope, were I to have a daughter, that I'd have a good enough relationship with her that she could talk to me about it without having to be forced to by some bullshit legal code.

Ultimately, studies have shown that more harm than good has come out of these laws; more girls are ending up dead or disfigured than would have happened without the law. So, all ethics and everything else aside, on a purely practical level, I am dead set against such parental notification laws. I fully expect the one on the ballot this year in CA to be shot down, and will most assuredly be voting against it.

You missed the point silly. Dont do the crime if you cant do the time or something like that. The least some retarded teenage girl could do is bring it to term and give it up cuz you know some cupple out there cant have a child and needs that one.

I say you might as well. Fucking idiot parents today treat their teenagers like 30 year old adults - or at least stand by and do nothing and let them act like 30 year olds anyway.

You need parents permission to bring tylenol to school, but not to stab your unborn child in the head with a needle, yeah, that makes sense.

This really would have little impact at least in the domestic realm, not sure if you chose to try and adopt abroad. The National Committee for Adoption has estimated that in the United States the number of parents waiting to adopt a baby is about 20 to 1. A new born baby put up for adoption will have adoptive parents found for it quite easily.

The issue(s) with our social welfare system can not be solved with increased abortions, nor with increased dollars until the core problem with the system is rectified. That core problem is the system of dependence and exploitation. First redesign social welfare programs so that people aren't put into situations where it is detrimental for them to work at getting off the system. (An example of this might be someone who loses medical insurance from the state before insurance kicks in at a potential job). Second close methods of "working" the system.

Nope sorry I just can't swallow that. It is far more horrid to me the thought of the destruction of an unborn child then the temporary hardships of pregnancy. The conditions into which a baby is born, is along the lines of the "quality of life" thought, it's a dangerous path to travel to start determining life over death based on the quality of life. That thought process has the potential to lead into justification of murder of those already born due to their subjective quality of life or burden on society.

Meh see my thoughts above on "quality of life".

Haha, I hear you there, I realized a long time ago that the abortion debate was a circular issue that no one is going to "win". It is extremely unlikely that either side will change any ones mind.

As far as Arlos's post, I must admit I'm a bit surprised. I can see pretty easily taking a stance against requiring parental consent, but I thought notification was a reasonably prudent common sense idea.

I'm not sure about the proposed California law, but the Oregon one allows for a legal method to circumvent notification for abusive situations and the like. Due to this it would never be necessary to pursue the back-alley route.

As far as the good relationship with the parents, the strongest motivator in many cases for not telling mom and dad would be based in fear of disappointment. I can tell you that when I was growing up there were at least a few times when I think I would have preferred getting knocked around a bit rather then having had disappointment either expressed directly or silently.

As far as studies showing negative effects of these types of laws, they can measure physical effects, but not the mental or emotional effects. The dirty little secret of abortion is that the majority of women will feel some angst over it. Realistically if you consider innate paternal instinct this makes sense, at the lowest level a womans instinct is to protect her baby even if it's just a mass of cells, intentional termination of pregnancy in the vast majority of cases is going to have to some degree emotional stress associated. This really can't be measured by studies due to it's subjectivity. I'll submit to you that in a case where a young woman has a good relationship with her parents emotional support from her parents should she choose to have an abortion would be a huge help in counteracting this.

I don't like abortion. But this topic has really been beat to death. As far as teenage girls(Under 18) getting surgery without parents permission, be it a baby or tonsils, it isn't going to happen without a signature.
