you know it's weird because my first born is black and i never considered this kind of stuff until he was born...But even now I don't find it offensive in my own mind, but I stopped saying it because a black friend of mine actually told me that it offended him...I asked him "why didn't you say something four years ago?" he said"I didn't think you would care"
I was shocked. I told him I didn't mean to offend him obviously and haven't used the term since..well except for last night on nt.
I believe it is because I have had the privelage of being white that I was blind to this.
Ahh, no it's nothing like that.
It's a little hard for me to explain. It's not the words themselves that annoy me, I think it's pretty much just Spazz. His typing annoys me, the content of his posts annoys me, his extensive use of slang annoys me. And the "homie" shit wouldn't irk me like it does if it was once in a while, but it's constant. And since he's not black*, I don't really see it as being part of his culture where he feels the need to throw it out like that. Even if he was black, he'd still really bother me, but at least I wouldn't roll my eyes every time he called someone "homie". Anyway, I'm not whining because I expect anyone to care or any change, more just idle chatter while I'm bored on a cold, rainy day.
*Before anyone flies off the handle and acuses me of being a racist, I fully understand that the pop culture image of an African American may not actually reflect the average black person. However, I see that type of language being more of an African American culture thing, just like "y'all" and "Howdy" are more of a Southern thing, and adding "hey?" at the end of your questions is a northern thing.
