Build A Bear Workshop

Postby Darcler » Tue Nov 07, 2006 3:52 pm

Ho...ly...shit...

We decided to go get Hailey a bear for her birthday. We were going to put BDUs on it and a litle voicebox thing with Gid's voice on it so Hailey could hear him while he's gone.
So off we go to the mall to this store. We walked in...immediately I wanted to slam my head against the wall. The music in this place...I could hardly stand it. Well, we start walking around the deflated animal carcasses to see which one we wanted to stuff. I decided on a soft bunny, since Gid calls her Bunny. We walked around a little more and are cornered by a saleslady. She had a mustache. She was also entirely too happy to be there...I think it must have been the music, some sort of brainwashing agent.
Well we dodged the 'stache and looked at the clothes to put on these stuffed animals. A full wall of stuffed animal clothing. A full wall of clothing that are more expensive than what we dress our child in.
We found the camo, but the green looked weird so we went with a desert camo looking outfit. Came with a beret...a general's beret...oh well.
So we go to this huge churning stuffing machine and find the 'stache. She comes over and tries to sell us more shit, like little hearts to put in the bear (which I bought because the proceeds go towards juvenile diabetes research). She made us make a wish and kiss it and stuff it in there. My wish was that she wouldnt talk anymore and would stuff the damn bunny so we could leave, the music was making me crawl out of my skin still.
She made us dress the bunny and then go over to some computer kiosk to make a birth certificate. We hurried through that and went to pay. She then tried to sell us boxers for the bunny. BOXERS FOR THE BUNNY... we declined, paid and left. Here's a rundown of the prices:
Bunny: $20
Camo outfit: $12 (I think)
Tan hiking boots that are close to the new army boots: $7
Voice box with your own recording: $8
Diabetes heart: $1
We walked out $51 poorer for a toy our daughter may or MAY NOT play with.

On the other hand, the thing is really cute, and the recording says "Ni ni bumbum", what Gid says as he puts her down to bed.

If any of you see this store and are remotely tempted to enter, DO NOT. They will suck every dollar you have out of you. The damned boxers (that you wouldnt see under the clothes) were $5. There were fucking accessories that we also declined. A tent FOR the bunny was like $15 or something.
Fuck this store.

Teddy Ruxpin on Ebay: 7.99
http://cgi.ebay.com/Interactive-Teddy-R ... dZViewItem

Cassette recorder on ebay: 9.99
http://cgi.ebay.com/AM-FM-Radio-Cassett ... dZViewItem

10 blank audio cassettes on ebay: 1.88
http://cgi.ebay.com/10-Blank-Fuji-CDFAN ... dZViewItem

So, $20 bucks plus shipping, you could have gotten a animated talking teddy bear, plus 15 HOURS worth of recordable tape for Gid to make recordings to her on, plus the cassette recorder that would allow him to record onto those tapes.

Yeah, I'd say the build a bear store is a bit ridiculous...

I actually pulled out my old Teddy Ruxpin not too long ago and put in a tape. She cried.
She's a weenie. She also cries at those little gecko things that attach themselves to our window above the bathtub.

The build a bear workshop here isn't nearly as bad as that... maybe cause the employees are goths.

The workshop is meant for the enjoyment of the kids, it gives them a chance to feel like they're taking ownership in something and creating something...at least that is what I thought it was all about. Isn't your daughter younger...a toddler? I don't know honestly I hope that isn't bad. but, if you had her with you during the process maybe that would have been different, although i know it's for her bday and it's probably a surprise. but yah, the teddy bear is something she'll have forever and probably won't "play with" very much. that is a lot of money though. I think I'd freak out in a store like that. darc you are really funny

If I think about it later, I'll take a pic of this half a hundred dollar bunny and post it. I should have gone to walmart or something.

in reality that store is built for women with too much money, to give them a place they can buy a stuffed doll that you could reasonably put together yourself for 5% of the total funds.

rah rah america!! :hiphop:

a side note.....my sister will regularly come to dinner with us, and buy her 7 yr old daughter stuff like a fillet mignon or lobster or something. what is up with chicks that feel like they have to spend all kinds of money on things a kid couldn't possibly have a taste for, or even any appreciation for? when you were a kid, would your parents do that for you? i don't get it.

I'm pretty sure our buying a 50 dollar stuffed animal is to compensate for the guilt when she puts it together that daddy isnt coming home. Or just a total laps in judgement.
If she doesnt, I will sleep with the damn rabbit and keep pressing the voicebox. I miss him already and he's only at the hotel. Again.

I'm sorry Darc...you know, after I wrote my post I was thinking: my sister's probably spending this outrageous money on crap her kid doesnt need to make up for sending her to daycare & whatnot.

Don't feel guilty....you and Gid are doing a good thing for all of you. & you know....after spending all the money on that bear, you certainly cant throw it away. Name him "Cousin Frank", get him a nice suit to wear & he'll be a real member of the family :)

AW...he's cute!

It's kinda cute Darc!

Btw it's very late and maybe I'm over tired but this thread had me laughing very hard. Especially thinking of the bunny barking while your daughter clutches onto it and it scaring her..

and this made me rofl~

I have been dying to go to this place. We have one at both the malls out here. I wish I had that kind of cash. My kids would have those forever. I would probably buy one for my best friend also because she is insane about teddy bears.

Someday, I am going to be rich. I can't wait to blow my wad of cash.
