How many victims do you think were armed? Legal or not the perpetrators would not have cared, they obviously don't respect the law enough to not commit murder, I somehow don't think possession of a fire arm illegally is going to keep them up at night. Now imagine if all 5 of the victims were armed, think there would have still been 5 victims, think the murders would still be at large?

Obviously it would take time, but if all guns were removed from the streets, and again I say it would take time... These stupid acts would not happen. Make them illegal, make it a life sentence if caught with one and melt down every one you take off the street, give it a couple of decades and poof, problem solved.

And if guns were never invented, if there were no such thing, do you really think we would see less violent crime?

Absolutely, most violent crime is done by minorities. Minorities that I hate to say live in a society where violence is glorified. Yeah, you still will have nut jobs beating people to death with their fists, bats, hammers or whatever and knife carrying psychos, but since we are talking hypothetical, I would be willing to bet that 70% of violent crime would not exist if it were not for the firearm.

I suggest you look into the violent crime stats from countries like England and Australia, Paul.

and if that were Spazz and I, it would have been 5 for 5.

There is never gun related crimes in Canada?

Tikker wrote:plus illegal gun is just one more thing to charge them with, and keep them locked up longer for

As far as we know these two men shot 5 people... killing 2 and wounding 3 for no apparent reason (at this point looks like a random killing spree). In all seriousness if we need one more thing to charge them for to get them an even bigger sentence then they would get based on murdering and attempted murder, guns are not the problem, our justice system is.

gun related crimes are very very low on the totem pole here

I'd wager that 90%+ of all murders here are via knife

In other news.... Canada institutes a new knife registration program... ;-)

I disagree with that dude. I could kill with my knife just as easily as i could my gun if i really decided some fucker had to go.

you're missing the point

it's a lot easier for someone to point and click than to actually kill someone by hand

guns are lethal on first shot a lot of times, where lots of times with knives, someone gets cut and once the blood is flowing people sometimes settle down

and yet - Canadains own more guns per capita than Americans,

Guns are not the problem. The problem is the lack of real punishment handed down by a lackluster, broken justice system and a legislation that's more interested in making it harder for law abiding citizians to own fire arms.

Paul, banning guns HERE isn't going to solve anything. It's illegal to use, grow, distribute cocain - but you can find it with relative ease. Guns are made all over the world, do you really think we're going to be able to stop the illegal import of them if we ban them here? We can't even keep drugs off the street much less anything else. Hell we can't even keep illegal HUMANS out of this country.

You can collect and melt down all the guns you want - and the manufactured fire arms of Mexico, Russia, China, and every where else will flow into this country like a flooded Mississippi river in spring.

Banning guns is only going to affect one group of people - those who already obey the law. You ban guns and the rate of crime will sky rocket because now the criminals will KNOW you can't protect yourself. Sorry, but if I were married and I had to leave town for a week's worth of business I'd feel a lot better knowing that my wife had a means to protect herself with something other then a dead bolt lock on the front door.

Again, you want to curve the rate of gun related violent crime? You start by actually PUNISHING people who commit them. That means REAL, and harsh sentences - not coddling them with bullshit, light sentences in some country club like prison (yes, compared to other countries, our prisons are like country clubs). See NYC when Gulliani (sp) was Mayor for an example.

Man we should make murder illegal. I think that would really help with our crime problems. I mean, if murder were banned, I'm sure it would become a thing of the past.
