Don't buy at Best Buy

Lots of retailers have been doing this for years. JC Penny says happy holidays, Sears no longer has Christmas sales....they have holiday sales. To me its the right thing to do, Christians do not own that shopping period. There are so many holidays that fall during that time period, why should we wish Merry christmas to everyone, when there are so many different religions. Why should everything during December revolve around a christian holiday?

If you walked into Best buy and they had a Happy Hannukah sale, would you be offended? Would you want them to change it to something more neutral, so christians would not get "left out"?

They are not taking a shot at christianity at all, and to think that is foolish. I doubt that Best buy is run by jewish al quida from Canada wanting to make life miserable for christians.
Why fight it, i am a Man Whore!

Islam is not even close to being as big as Christianity in the United States. I just think that saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" to appease seculars is totally retarded and goes against what the "holiday" season is all about... the birth of Jesus Christ.

no, the holiday season is about santa claus and getting presents

Actually, Mindia, it's holiday season for a number of different religions. For Jews, obvioucly, it's Hanukkah, which obviously has nothing whatsoever to do with the birth of Jesus. Shouldn't their holiday be recognized too? It is if someone wishes "Happy Holidays", because it's all inclusive. Merry Christmas is specific to one religion, and leaves everyone else who's celebrating out.

Heck, it's a festive time for us Pagans, too. It's Yule, or Winter Solstice celebration, if you prefer, and our celebration of this time goes back to thousands of years before the birth of Christ. Indeed, many traditions (such as the Yule log, decorating a tree, hanging up wreaths, kissing under the mistletoe, etc) were originally pagan traditions that have been borrowed and incorporated into the Christian celebration. Why should MY winter holiday celebration be ignored?

Also, regardless of whether you think much of it or not, Kwanzaa is celebrated this time of year as well, from Dec 26 - Jan 1. I know y ou obviously don't believe in it, but there are those that do, and have just as much right to their belief as anyone else does. Why should their celebration likewise be left out by saying Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays?

So, anyway, just because a store is saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas", doesn't mean it's in response to "anti-christian" forces. It could be entirely due to wanting to be all-inclusive at this time when MANY religions are celebrating. Now, while I have a pretty good idea that you don't think much of either paganism or Kwanzaa, I know you respect Judaism. So, why would you advocate stores to ignore their holiday?

Very true, Spazz.

How can a group that is basically in control of the entire world be claiming to be victimized on a daily basis?

Oddly enough, this is a characteristic shared by the French. They're both Paranoid about diluting their culture.

I think its just part of being a christian to feel like your being victimized. For whatever reason it really bothers them that not everyone beleives as they do and that shit makes no sense to me.

Well, the more people that don't buy in to the bullshit, the more painfully obvious it becomes that it is in fact bullshit and they have indeed been bullshat.

Didn't you get the memo? You have to celebrate Jesus 9 months earlier now, when he was conceived by the Divine Sperm. Or else you're promoting abortion! Obviously his life didn't start when he was born, after all, right?

In all actuality, there's one overriding nd primary reason why Christmas is when it is. For a long time, people in the Roman Empire had been celebrating the Feast of Mithras (Mithras being a god a lot of people followed), that happened to be celebrated right around winter solstice. The issue for the Church was that people were continuing to celebrate it, even after they turned Christian, because it was so ingrained. Well, they certainly couldn't have THAT, so what they did is they declared that Christ's birthday was right at the same time as that Festival, and co-opted a bunch of the elements of the celebration of Mithras, and called the whole thing Christmas. So, people still celebrated in much the same way, their focus just changed, and gradually Mithras celebrations died out entirely.
