Oh, Taxx, I agree that their excuse is nothing more than 30 tons of grade-A prime bullshit. No arguments there. I was pointing out the fact that their excuses were crap by the fact that every other NCAA division of college football, besides division 1, actually DOES have a playoff, and it works just fine.

You don't even have to be good to be in a bowl game. All you have to do is win 6 games. Look at all the 6 - 6 teams that got invited to a bowl game so far.

I also read an article the other day saying the there's an FBI probe being done on the NCAA right now. I don't want to go into details because I only skimmed it. Had something to do with being an educational unit but having really nothing to do with education. Thats where the NCAA president always throws in the idea of looking out for the academic intrest of the players bullshit.

Their excuse is that they don't want the students to miss another 2 weeks of schooling.................the only problem is that those 2 weeks fall on a time when 99% of the schools are out for christmas vacation.

Like they're [the players] really striving for a quality education in the first place. Let's be honest. The VAST majority of players couldn't give a shit less about getting a degree... a degree that they can actually use to find a job. Most players (not all - some do go the Steve Young route and end up with Law degrees) major in bullshit like "Family Management" "Phys Ed" and other utterly useless degrees that Corky from "Life Goes On" could earn with little to no effort. I'd be very suprised to see just how many players actually go to class on a regular basis. Moreover, you can bet your ass that if a particular player happens to be a star there's not a prof on campus that would fail them, no matter how poorly they do on exams / papers / etc. Do you really think any prof at Notre Dame is going to give a failing grade to Brady Quinn and risk being run off campus?

Please, it's a joke. They're there for one reason and one reason only - to play football. And, if you can't see the product of what I'm talking about - just sit down and watch a few hours worth of interviews with NFL players.

Now I realize that NT'ers like to skim and then jump to conclusions without reading the entire post - so let me say again - yeah there are some players that have their head on straight and DO take on relatively difficult majors. I used Steve Young as just one example... but there are those players who do go for real degrees.

Anyway, I think most true football fans know that the excuse they give (about not wanting players to miss two weeks of courses) is bullshit.

I don't think I really need to say this - in this forum - but we all know the real reason they refuse to institute a play-off system.... MONEY. Corporate sponsors would have a lot to lose if they did switch to play-offs. It's VERY analogous to the big lobbies in Washington. Big business greasing the wheels of government to serve their clients interests, while the people get fucked. With the BCS... you have big corporate money greasing the system to serve the financial interests of big business while the schools and fans get fucked. It's the same fucking thing. After all, who's going to watch a National Championship with Northwestern against Army? No one. But, if you can some how ensure that Notre Dame / Ohio State / USC / Texas / <insert big time popular school here> square off against each other - you get a hell of lot more viewers... errr I mean potential customers.

Money is fucking everything in this country up... from politics to sports and everything in between.

Florida needs to blow out the SEC championship so we can have a 3-way circle jerk with Florida, USC, Michigan for the championship.

It's inevitable to eventually go to a playoff for the D-1 champ, we just need a few more years of clusterfuck to piss everyone off enough to solidify it.

As it stands the SEC should tell the BCS to go fuck themselves and withdraw. THAT would stir up enough shit to push for a play off system. But, really - why is the SEC even bothering with the BCS? They get fucked over year after year...

I think if they have a playoff in division 1, only the conference winners should be eligible.

It looks like LSU is going to the Rose bowl to play either USC or Michigan.

It's official. Florida get's the honor of getting pounded into the mub by Ohio State :D

I will say this though. Florida better show up and put on a game because the entire SEC will need it. IF they go in there and get thumped - the BCS will come back with "welllll you saw what happened the last time we put an SEC team in the National Champ..." the next something like this happens.

In a way I feel bad for Mich because they didn't have the schedule to play two games late in the season to protect their standing - can blame the Big 10 for that one. But, in all fairness - they did lose to OSU.

Flordia should go. They're gonna get thumped into the dust - but they deserve to be there nonetheless.
