Your brother is a fucking liar.
This is the damn if you do damned if you don't attitude that I hate so much.
You see a successful black man and it's because of affirmative action, no way he got there on his own. You see an unsuccessful black man and you curse him for being a sponge.
This is why the black community has to try twice as hard to get where they are. Perception like this is why affirmative action exists.
Bullshit
I've worked with HR before, in facilitating new hires
minority races are FAVOURED for hires, not so much that you take unqualified over qualified, but if you're a black/native/visible minority/woman you get the job over the white dude 100% of the time
if you're disabled, it's a golden ticket

I still maintain that people naturally want to be surrounded by people they have things in common with, whether it be because of race or family status, or age or financial status...it's just normal to be among each other.
there are ignorant people and there are racist people. and both of course.
the good point that arlos made was that the true issue is really "what to do about it" because it's clear the problem is there.
i think it'd help to do the obvious and live in communities with grocery stores, laundromats, theaters, schools, etc-everything within walking distance (to promote exercise-which they're already doing check it out on cnn
) anyway...smaller communites for families creates opportunities for friendships in communities. nowadays noone knows their neighbor anymore. I think the communities would naturally become populated and we'd find that we are living around/hanging out with the people we want to be around.
I mean, I never see very many mixed couples and when I do it doesn't freak me out in any way at all. People have rights to their preferences and some people don't hate black people or asians (anyone who feels slighted) and yet they freak out when they see them with someone of their own race. I dont', but yah it happens and what do you do about those people?
mindia is repulsed by fat chicks. he isn't afraid to say it. you might call him shallow but I call it honest. people have preferences. I'm attracted to white guys but I don't hate black people. is it racist? or is it preference? It's racist when people hate black people because of their skin color and those groups are fewer these days. they exist but they are certainly out-numbered which makes them a minority. do you hate people that hate? because-that makes you exactly what they are.
what do you do about the people who hate? you can't change people's minds. the ignorant generation is moving out, the more accepting/tolerant generation is coming in but it doesn't mean they are good at it or even that much more than we are and our previous generations were. we do know they're going to be better-even than we were. we already see it.
time is taking care of it on a societal level..individually-just like someone else said, is the ONLY way to do anything about it right now in your lifetime. every time you post, every time you say something that someone hears, etc. even if you're joking (which I am guilty of but I have no hate i promise) what you said is still what it is.
people take generalizing a race based on behavior as being racist but i don't-I just think it's ignorant.
