Who here has experience with this kind of thing?

I was reccommended for a senator today and I have never done anything like this. I am going to go for it because I can only learn from the experience!

Please, though...someone give me a clue about what to do once I get there.

Thanks.

Naw, student governments don't really have all the much power. It's more of a resume thing than anything, really. It does depend on the school - but all in all - nothing get's done with the approval of the various deans.

I did this for about a year and a half. Being a senator on the school level, you mostly go to meetings, at some point our school made recommendations as to what we thought the tuition raise (if there would be one or not) should be, ran a book drive and other various activities and discuss various school issues and what if anything can be done to solve them. This was probably my first half year.

My first full year I was president of the school's government and was regional rep for 5 community/tech colleges and we fought and won keeping one of the colleges from closing, which was one of 4 options.

It really does depend on the school but it was a good experience.

I did it and we mostly planned fundraisers, and events like dances, etc. Which is why I asked. People made fun of us for calling it a government when all we did was fun stuff, but we raised over $100,000 dollars in one semester. So to me, that is a difference.

I think you two rock, firstly, for working with your school's to help out as much as you did!

Also., I just got my signatures needed within about 15 minutes of asking.

Charisma is a beautiful thing sometimes.

Now all I have to do is write a short paragraph and hand the stuff in and wait.
