something similar happened the first time i met my old roommate krystal . . . one friday night my friends tony and travis and i went to the village inn where i used to work (this was after i had quit) at 12:45 or so (they closed at 2 on weekends, making it the only restaurant open in hastings after the bars closed, so it usually got a little hectic) and krystal was one of the only servers on the floor. she came and took our orders and was really sweet to us, and then a table a couple of booths away started heckling her and giving her crap for not having her food out yet, and then some other table started drunkenly shouting at her abotu something, and she was actually starting to tear up and get really upset, so we called her over to our table once she'd dealt with the others and told her not to worry about getting our food out to us quickly and to go out and have a smoke and calm down. the look of relief and gratitude on her face made the wait totally worth it. she brought our food out as soon as she could and was in much better spirits, and we tipped her really well. it's hard to provide everyone with good service when there are five other tables squawking at you, y'know? it's nice to show a little sympathy every once in awhile and not act like a server's only purpose is to serve you and you only.

i made a really good friend out of the deal, too. ^_^

I am always generous with a tip. The only time i didnt tip well (and ive had some bad experiences at some places), was at this place called The Ram. Sports bar and restaurant. Food was usually really good, and drinks were pretty cheap compared to some other places.

There was 4 of us, my Girl friend at the time, and her friend on a blind date. Took forever to get our food, i got hit in the head by a tray of food a waiter was carrying, my steak had to be taken back twice to get recooked, waiter spilled my drink on me etc etc. On a 140$ ticket i left 5 bucks and stole the really cool looking cup the drinks came in.

We went to Hooters where my cousin worked to watch the NBA Championship games. She took our orders and got us our stuff and when it came time to leave, she said not to tip her. She even crossed out the tip line on her copy of the ticket. So we snuck a tip on our copy and left that. Like $10 on a $30 ticket. She didnt enter our tip when she went to cash out at the end of the night. It never showed up on our bank statement =/ We would have left cash if we had it, that way at least someone got it, even if she just gave it to another of the girls.

We are big tippers. If our service was so-so, we normally leave 10%.

It's hard for me not to tip well. You'd have to be a super cunt. Even if the service is meh, I still tip well. It's a hard job, people need a break. Usually if I go to a place enough times they remember that I'm a decent tipper and work harder to serve me. You'd literally have to be a total cockface for me to stiff you but it's happened.

if the service is good, ill tip well. usually 20-25% ( i have gone more for exceptional service.) too bad that is rare. If i get shitty service I leave a shitty tip. If its bad enough i have bitched to the manager and gotten comp'd. I have also left complements with the manager when the service was really good.

The thing is, I wasn't even talking about Mark's tipping because I know gratuity is included in a lot of countries - my qualm was the everyone gets a free meal because a mistake is made and that he seems pretty proud of himself for that - and a thing I've noticed in 5 years of waitressing is the ones who want a free meal are usually the worst tables to get, because they already come in the restaurant expecting something. My dad's ex was like that, anywhere we went she could find something wrong and talk them into something free - drove me to the point that I wouldn't go places with her at all.

And yes Mark, imo, someone working at McDonalds is contributing more than you and your free ride to school. Someone at McDonalds has to deal with snoots like you all day who are trying to get a free meal.

Kahar's rules on tipping.

1. Estimate how much the meal will cost. round figures are fine.
2. Set a 25 percent tip on the table.
3. Order your drink.

Deductions
1. If the tea(or coke or whatever) hits bottom and does not get filled in 3 minutes, a dollar goes off the table. After 3 minutes take 1.00 off the table for each minute they fuck around.
2. If they ignore me, i.e. take order and I dont see them again for 20 minutes till food comes out, 1.00 off the table.
3. If they tell me how shitty their day is. 5.00

Additions to the tip.
1. If they pay special attention to my kids, and or wife. 1.00-5.00
2. A smile goes along way 2.00
3. If something is wrong with the food(ordered rare get well done) dirty silverware. And they apologize and take care of the situation to the best of their abilities. 1.00
4. if it is a busy night and the waitress, realizing she is gonna be busy brings out a pitcher of tea, coke for the table so as not to be inattentive. 1.50

Look I understand it is a thankless job. Frankly I have done it too. But on a slow night there should be no fucking reason for my tea glass to go empty, or for the waitress not to come by and ask once or twice if I need anything while I wait for my food. Martrae can attest that I have tipped upto 50 percent of my bill for exceptional service. I have actually talked to the management about a job well done and went as far as to make sure the waiter got a extra tip at the end of the night from me.

I am a demanding customer but if the demands are met. the waitress/waiter gets well taken care of.

the above is based on a 75.00 bill.

Well I just ordered a pizza and now I remember why I dont tip pizza delivery boys. I always ask for some parmesan and pepper when I order pizza. So anyway they will usually get off of car and gimmie my pizza and I will then ask them for pepper and parmesan and they say they dont have any. This has happened 5 times already not just 1 incident. I also have a friend that works at the pizza hut here and he says drivers are always required to carry some and when they dont they are just being lazy as shit and just dont wanna go back to car get some and come back. I used to tip 5 bucks for 1 pizza and 10 for 3-4 pizza's if im having a party. But not anymore since they started being retarded.

That sounds like it's not the pizza guys fault but the person you ordered from. Way to take it out on the pizza dude though.

There was an episode of 3rd rock that detailed your tipping method Kahar. That's where I thought you got it from.
