It's like they forgot to show up. You can do that against Michigan, but you can't do that against an SEC team.

Half a game to go, though.

I wonder what they are going to say about Troy Smith and his stellar performance tonight.

I feel alot better now after Michigan lost there game. I mean I got to see OSU get there ass handed to them and that makes me feel a little better now.

This bowl season proves that both OSU and the Big Ten are way overrated.

"Honestly, we've played a lot better teams than them," Florida defensive end Jarvis Moss said. "I could name four or five teams in the SEC that could probably compete with them and play the same type of game we did against them."

Playing against the Auburns, LSUs, Georgias, etc is tough.

Man, if this isn't an indicator that we need a playoff system in college football, I don't know what is.

IMO the top two teams in the country come from the SEC. That'd be Florida 1, and LSU 2.

I'm not so sure the Big 10 is overrated, I just think top to bottom the level of competition in the SEC is the best in the country.

I do think OSU came out flat. Not an excuse, but if this game was played during the season, or soon after, it'd be a lot different.

I also think Troy Smith is hugely overrated.

Warms my heart to see OSU get the floor wiped with them after all the chest thumping you get all year. Their fans are really starting to rival Miami's in the holier-than-thou department.

Eddie George panicing at halftime was hilarious and the most lol thing all night was the OSU band playing the Titanic theme song and "sinking" under that blue tarp - aka Gator colors.

Pure classic.

After watching the UF and LSU defenses, it really gives you some respect for McFadden and what he did week in and week out vs. the SEC.

They didn't even try...

I don't care what anyone says - take away the 60 day break and that game would have been a LOT different. Think about how many teams struggle when the come off a by weekend.... think about having 8 by weekends in a row.

It's bullshit... it's all about the money. We're not going to see a play off system. We're not going to see bowl games closer the end of the season. It's going to stay the way it is so long as a buck can be made.

They should yank that Hieseman from Smith's hands and give it to a QB who actually DESERVES it. Fuck Troy Smith... he didn't put forth half the effort last night he did during the season.

You can still have a bowl system and a playoff system. Just incorporate the two into one, and allow for the BCS to become the BCS Playoff Bowls. College football is hugely popular. There is actually an avenue to make a lot more cash.

All the current worthless bowls can still be there, too. They'll just be for nothing like they currently are.

With an 8 team playoff, you'd only need 2 more games than the current BCS format (5 games).

You could add more traditional bowls like the Cotton and Gator or whatever for the other 2 games.

It would be insanely simple to impliment a playoff for college and make the same money if not more. I really don't understand the stonewalling going on with blocking what everyone wants to see.

Like Lyion says, all the worthless bowls like the Motor City bowl could still remain and give the smaller conference winners and rest of the top 25 a place to go and still have college football traditional games throughout the last couple weeks of December, with the playoff games being on Saturdays and the championship being on New Years.

51 days. Florida had 36 days off. Some talking head on ESPN said that, going into the game, Tressell was 4-0 in bowl games after a layoff of 40+ days.

Dude the excuses are silly. Florida owned OSU. USC owned Michigan. Both schools need to seriously upgrade their talent. Michigan has - known - this need for a few years now and has marginally improved. Maybe this will be OSU's wakeup call that they too are nationally overrated.

I hate Florida, but congrats to those #1 Gators.

Its because Tom Delay, the Big 10 "owner" doesnt want a Playoff system because he would lose money on it. Big 10 represents about 25% of revenue coming into college football. Going to a playoff system would cost him money, because his teams may not get in, wich in return costs him money.

If your biggest money maker doesnt sign off on the deal, it doesnt make sense for college football.

While a large majority of conference "owners" are in favor of a playoff system, it wont happen till he decides its a good idea. Sucks that one guy essentially stands between fans and what they want to see.
Why fight it, i am a Man Whore!

the way to do it would be to have the BCS bowls determine who gets into the actual playoffs (whether it's 8 or 16 teams)

that way the BCS is still meaningful AND you get playoffs and everyone actually makes MORE money

actually

this is how I'd do it

you play only in your own conference

winner of conference advances to some sort of BCS bowl against a diff't conference based on rankings

winners of said BCS bowl move into playoffs, winner gets National crown

It's the Big Ten and Pac10's fault really. They're both diehard supporters of the Rose Bowl that they won't agree to anything that doesn't involve them both going to it.

Ohio State's Schedule:

1. W 35-12 over N. Illinois - MAC school blown out of their bowl game.
2. W 24-7 over Texas - Big 12 school that barely beat mid-level Big 10 school in bowl game.
3. W 37-7 over Cincinnati - Held on to beat upper level MAC school in bowl game.
4. W 28-6 over Penn State - Big 10 school that actually beat a comparable SEC team.
5. W 38-17 over Iowa - Big 10 school that underachieved this year and lost bowl game.
6. W 35-7 over Bowling Green - Crap MAC school
7. W 38-7 over Michigan State - Crap Big 10 school
8. W 44-3 over Indiana - Crap Big 10 school
9. W 44-0 over Minnesota - Mediocre Big 10 school that lost their bowl game
10. W 17-10 over Illinois - 7 point win over Big 10 doormat
11. W 54-10 over N.Western - Crap Big 10 school
12. W 42-39 over Michigan - Good Big 10 school that lost their bowl game

In this schedule I see three decent wins: Texas, Penn State, Michigan. Only 3 teams that they played went on to win their bowl game.

Florida's Schedule:

1. W 34-7 over S. Miss - Conf USA runner-up who won their bowl game
2. W 42-0 over UCF - Crap Conf USA school
3. W 21-20 over Tennessee - Good SEC school that lost their bowl game to Big 10 school
4. W 26-7 over Kentucky - Decent SEC school that won their bowl game
5. W 28-13 over Alabama - Mediocre SEC school that lost their bowl game
6. W 23-10 over LSU - Good SEC school that won their bowl game
7. L 17-27 over Auburn - Good SEC school that won their bowl game
8. W 21-14 over Georgia - Good SEC school that won their bowl game
9. W 25-19 over Vanderbilt - 6 point win over SEC doormat
10. W 17-16 over S. Carolina - Mediocre SEC school that won their bowl game
11. W 62-0 over W. Carolina - Southern doormat
12. W 21-14 over Florida St. - Mediocre ACC team that won their bowl game
13. W 38-28 over Arkansas - Good SEC team that lost their bowl game to Big 10 school.

I see the good wins being: Tennessee, LSU, Georgia, Arkansas with maybe S. Miss and Florida State. 7 of their opponents won their bowl games.

Maybe OSU needs to play a bit stronger schedule to toughen them up a bit. The same goes for Michigan.
