easiest way to think of HDMI is a DVI cable with audio cable all in 1 sheath

99% of sets do NOT do 1080p on component, only some will (westinghouse 42" for example http://www.amazon.com/Westinghouse-LVM- ... B000E7RACK )

ps, it's more fun to build your own DVR than just buy one ;)

samsung makes really nice panels, as does Sharp

the Sony Bravia's while overpriced are also very awesome

the Westinghouse I linked is probably best bang for your buck, and I'm pretty sure it's the same one that Lyion actually owns, so you can quiz him up about it

it's nice cause it does 1080p on the HDMI, DVI as well as all the component inputs (which is rare)

I'm gonna be getting this bad boy:

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-HP-S4253- ... lectronics

2 HDMI outputs so I can have my PS3 and 360 on a switchbox and a DVR/Cable box . Have my Wii on component with my PS2 and probably save up to get a phatty home theater in the summertime. Also thinking about hooking my PC up to this somewhere in there. I estimate when i have the exact system I want I will have spent somewhere in the 500 range in just cables and adapters not to mention the switchbox. Lol this all started with wanting to see my PS3 on HD and it turned into a home theater project.

My friend is offering me 800 for mine and also for me to set up his home theater and stuff so I figured why not. Once that's done I'm gonna get rid of a lot of my old PS2 games I don't play anymore and go apeshit on BluRay and HD DVD movies.

Hmmm...missed that part. The Westinghouse is looking nicer and nicer now if you compare the 2.

Ok TV sold, now to go get the new one. Been doing a lot of studying and without spending more than 2500 I found the Westinghouse 42 inch and the Vizio 47 inch to be the best value/quality sets I could find online. Still in the process of making a decision and I'm hoping to have my mind made up by Monday when I place the order. Any feedback would be super.

And yes Tikker, upon further research I discovered the resolution of that Samsung sucks cack so I didn't get it.

just make sure you go to best buy or whatever, and actually look at the tv's before you buy one

The westinghouse looked nice. I haven't seen the Vizio one in action yet. Waiting for Lyion's response on the TV

Now for a home theater. I wonder how Bose ranks up.

if you're buying a receiver, then get one with an HDMI switch built into it

in the other thread you said you bought a plasma, so what's up?
Jay

I say plasma like a southerner says coke. That's what I say in reference to flat tv. To be more on the accurate side of things this is more like an LCD monitor right? I don't know the difference quite honestly.

it's a LCD panel that does not have a built in tuner

oh noz, no analog cable for you!

you'll be forced to watch HD content via the 360/PS3/hd satellite/cable

I never believed in having anything running through the receiver except audio (of course), but after my father in law passed down his pioneer elite receiver to me, I'm a believer. Unfortunately it's too old to have HDMI and the house is wired for component so I'll have to make due with that for now.

Anyone heard anything about the Sony SXRD models? Every time I see them on display they're by far the best looking picture of any TV in the store (to me). The year old 60inch model is $2400 bucks and the newest version which I hear has the same image quality, just more features is like $3500

That's a pretty sorry list of movies. Is that all that's available on Blu-Ray?
Jay

Post by Jay »

I've got a bunch of movies on DVD and I only bought the Blu Rays that I didn't have on DVD. Next Blu Ray I'm getting is probably Casino Royale in March.
