Wii or Xbox360

Post by Lueyen »

Decided to buy another console, last console I owned was a SNES. I'm trying to decide between the Wii or Xbox 360, leaning heavily on the xbox atm, anyone who has one or especially both have a recommendation?

What's your genre of game? Is this system going to be for you to chill and play on every so often or are you looking to invite people over and have some multiplayer action?

the 1 bonus the xbox has is that it'll function as a media hub too, which is pretty slick

The Wii is a gimmick.. Once the novelty of the Wii mote is gone, there won't be much left. The 360 will have 10x the library of games plus it functions as a media hub as Tikker said. You can download HD TV shows and movies and the Live Arcade kicks ass.

I don't think I'd bank on the xbox having a bigger gaming library

My boy had a 360 and a Gamecube, prior to our Wii and the Gamecube pretty much got all of his time.

The 360 has more whizbang and extras, but the Nintendo has much more fun games. And it will have a lot more games, since the entire gamecube library can be played on it

I can't think of a single 360 game he's interested in this year. We've already pre-ordered Super Smash Melee and Mario Party 8 for our Wii.

Do yourself a favor and get yourself a Wii. You can play Gamecube games on it, the Wii stuff is excellent, and it's a much, much better gaming console than either the 360 or the PS3. The sports pack alone with the Wii is better than every 360 title put together, and after a month I'm still playing it regularly.

The 360 is a waste of coin, as is the PS3 right now. They just don't have the gaming goodness of the Wii. You'll hear a lot of people saying the Wii is a gimmick, but that's a bunch of garbage. The Wii is the best gaming console on the market at the best price. period.

The original Xbox has about 800 titles. The 360 had even more 3rd party support than the Xbox. I'd count on at least 1000 titles by the end of the systems lifespan.

Now that the launch hype is over, I expect the Wii to slowly fade away just like the Gamecube did. The PS3 and 360 stomp it in every category. Way more bang for your buck going with either one of those machines. IF the Wii was about $150, it would be a great deal but to me it looks like a networked Gamecube with a gimmicky controller for over twice as much money. No thanks.

Now if you are talking about young kids, yeah, the Wii is the way to go.

I like to play games, I just dont want to have to *play* the games.
The Wii has looked /yawn to me from the getgo.

But as Toss said, for young kids and probably teens, Wii might be a good choice.

The gamecube faded away? Despite Xbox losing money out their ass and giving away tons of these, the installed base of the Xbox was about the same as the gamecube.

Plus, the Gamecube stomps the 360 in quality games.

...And you don't have to pay the ridiculous Xbox Live fee to play against your friends.

Not to mention the Gamecube will still be working 4 years from now. Chances are that 360 will be dead.

Go play both at your local store and then decide. Heck, if you want I'll sell you my 360 cheap. It's sitting here gathering dust, since I finished Gears of War.

Nintendo's library is about 5000 titles ahead of Xbox already

ps, the Wii will likely have 1500 games for it within 3 years

Remember that Lyion is about the most fickle gamer in the history of gaming.

Yeah, that $6 a month is killing me for LIVE service.

Buy Lyions 360. You won't regret it. If you never owned an Xbox, it's a great way to cash in on all the cheap Xbox games as well. I picked up Mechassault and Crimson Skies yesterday for $3 each.

The point is you are paying for something you get for free with the Wii.

4 out of 5 fickle gamers prefer the Wii!

As an aside, you can get a used Xbox for under 100 bones. You can get a Wii for 250, provided you can find one. Unlike the PS3 or 360, people are still buying the Wiis as they arrive.

There are no must have games for the PS3 or 360. Honestly, I'd suggest getting an old Xbox if you are looking for console goodness, then nab a Wii after. You'll spend less than a HD 360 and get everything you need.

If you are looking for a PC replacement, then I'd suggest a 360 or PS3. If you are just looking for console goodness, the Wii is the way to go.

Especially if you are a single internet gamer like some here looking to entice nookie from chicks with kids. the Wii will occupy their kids for hours giving you a better chance at said nookie, so you can be a happy person, instead of a bitter trolling bastard regurgitating the same evil over and over here!

So far, the Wii has 1 good game out. So unless you're a big Zelda fan, i'd wait.

A console isn't great till you actually have games to play on it.

Stick with the program!

There are a ton of gamecube games out that are good, which'd be new for him.

I own both, and with Trauma Center on the Wii, Legend of Zelda, and the Sports Pack it gets all the console use currently at my house.

As Toss did mention, the 360 does do some cool things. If one wants media center functionality, the 360 really shines there. It also is PC like in its games selection. The Wii is a console, and while there are whizbang things one can do, it still remains moreso of that.

I'd recommend the Wii due to my experiences, but it comes down to what one is looking for.

yeah, but his PC will also have every game the Xbox has, so it's kind of redundant that way

as a pure gaming console, the Xbox doesn't appeal to me at all

as a gaming console that also lets you stream media, and do other hackable goodies, then you're talking~
