WoW and DSL

Postby Ginzburgh » Tue Jan 16, 2007 2:01 pm

I don't know if this belongs in tech support or WoW, it has to do with both.

My GF and I just bought a house and we are shopping around for cable / internet / phone service.

AT&T has a package for:

Dish (180 channels + DVR on two TVs)
Phone (unlimited local and long distance)
DSL (1.5-3.0 mbs download speed and 384-512 kbs upload speed)

For $71.98 a month total after rebates. There is a $35 per month rebate if we commit to two years.

My question is,

Will I have any trouble playing WoW on a 1.5-3.0 mbs download and 384-512 upload connection. It's their "Pro" DSL line, they have an "Elite" line for $10 more a month but it's not available in my area.

I was playing WoW on DSL for a while and didn't have any problems.

Do you know what the download / upload speed was?

5 Megs down / 800 k up advertised.

It's a big company though so I'm sure it was never that good.

Did you check Comcast? They have a combo package that sounds about the same only better.

You will have absolutely no problems with WOW and that connection unless you have many Bittorrent files seeded in the background.

Also, that's a great deal. I wish it was available here.

Comcast = cable modem. They have a triple play package which includes the TV, Phone and Modem for 99 a month.

However...the voice over ip isn't available in our area, so we don't get the package price. The cable internet ends up costing 49.99 a month and the cable TV (with less channels than dish) costs 49.99 a month. The total would be $115 a month after taxes, box fee, etc.

So AT&T which includes Dish, DSL and Phone for $72 a month

or

Comcast which includes Cable internet and Cable TV for $115 a month. Then we'd have to get Vonage or something for an extra $25 a month.

So AT&T obviously has the better offer, but I am just concerned about the DSL speed and being able to play WoW on it while my girlfriend is in another room working wirelessly on her laptop.

If I am missing anything, please let me know.

Wow even in my town all the stuff is available from Comcast. I guess it helps becasue they're based out of Philly. But yeah, DSL (even during raids) won't have a problem with WoW.
