If a major worldwide cataclysmic event occurred

Postby Narrock » Tue Jan 23, 2007 7:23 pm

in the near future (that you managed to survive through initially), and all food supplies from grocery stores got completely diminished in a matter of hours, how long could you sustain yourself based on food reserves in your residence?

Also, take it a step further... let's assume that fresh running water ceased, and electricity also went out for an unknown period. How long could you sustain yourself and/or your family?

Experts advise having an absolute minimum of 6 months of provisions on hand.

Thinking about it, that would be a pretty big chunk of change stocking up on that much food, not to mention the storage space needed for it.

my grandma has been stocking up since 1959 - she buys extra food water every week, just go there if you are in the bay area she has the entire basement and garage stocked.

I have a gun. I don't need to stockpile food and water when my foolish neighbors do.

some of us are self sufficient, resourceful, and full of knowledge about how to survive

the rest of you are known as non-canadians

Indeed, you saying I couldn't travel for 15-20 miles to the coast and fish for food?

well, if the environment is completely toast, it doesn't matter how much food you have stocked, you're just living on borrowed time

The freezer full of beef would be enough food for over a year, and there is a freshwater stream in my back yard. Then there is a couple hundred acres of wild land next to my property that has deer and shit.

something to keep in mind, no electricity means those freezers won't be working either. It would either have to be winter or you would have to salt, can or otherwise preserve your meat

I'd survive for about 1-2 weeks, depending on how much bottled-water I had at the time... but then I'd go live off my parents who have enough food / water to last til the sun swallows the Earth.

You would also have to think about the complete anarchy that would take place. Even if you stocked up, theres that chance of a group of people that will bum rush your house, rape your wife and eat your children....and then your food.
