What is the deal with these guys this year? They are kicking everyone ass. They have two 14+ games winning streaks. Steve Nash going to win another MVP?

All this love for the Suns but they are 3 games behind the Mavs and the Mavs are 2-0 against them...

I don't get it.

I'm constantly hearing these comments or reading articles about how UNSTOPPABLE the Suns are, yet... hi, we've beaten them twice. The Mavs started out 0-4 (rocky start) so if you take away that single bump in the road, we are 35-4. And... in OUR 10+ winning streaks, we are beating teams like the Spurs, Suns, Jazz, Lakers, Pistons, Heat, Wizards, etc. Once again, the Suns are on another huge streak... and once again it's against powerful opponents like the Knicks (twice), T-wolves, Blazers, Grizzlies, Sonics, Warriors, Raptors and Bulls. Whooptee freaking doo. In fact, they've played 8 more games in the cushy East than the Mavs...

wtf

Only up a half game on the suns (1.5 if you count that the Mavs own the tie break)

I think the hype that surrounding the suns, is due to the margin of victory this year. Thats the only thing i can attribute it too, that the Mavs havnt done as well. Certainly not taking anything away from the Mavs on that.

The brand of basketball they play, being the more up tempo running offense, draws more attention than the mavs offense.

And of course The Suns have Steve Nash, 2 time MVP and making a strong case for his third. At his age, he has reinvented his game, and certainly made that team stronger.

In a 7 game series though, i still pick the mavs.

You also say the mavs had a horrible start, well so did the suns at 1-5 if i remember correctly. Im not arguing with you Vonk, as i think the Mavs are the better team, just merely trying to come up with ideas why the Suns are the poster boys of the NBA this year, and the Mavs are not.
Why fight it, i am a Man Whore!

It's funny cause the Mavs have been running for years (a little less this year then in years past) and they never got ANY love. Me and Vonk used to joke about it all the time. As soon as the Suns hit the scene with Nash (ex-Mav) people just showered them with praise. Personally I don't understand it much either, but I'd give the Suns the edge in a 7 game series this year. Sorry Vonk.

We beat em in 6 last year and it wasn't even that close...

And speaking of refs, we were raped by them in our ONLY loss in the past 22 games (against L.A.), so... we'd be working a 22 game WINNING streak right now if not for the refs... and that includes some truly powerhouse teams, UNLIKE the eastern swing that Phoenix has enjoyed all year long.

Read this carefully:
The Mavs are 24-6 against the West, 11-2 against the East. The Suns are 16-7 against the West, 17-1 against the East. We've played a much tougher schedule out here. They are beating the losing teams and losing to the winning teams. Phoenix is 0-2 against Utah and Dallas, 1-1 against the Spurs, Clippers and Wizards... and 0-1 against the Lakers. Yet they are 2-0 against New York, Charlotte, Toronto, Boston, Sacramento and Memphis Congrats for beating up on a bunch of POWER teams. That's 8 wins right there... an 8-game winning streak that people would be freaking out about all over the league. And, it's just about as hard as some of the streaks they've been on.

First streak:
Utah (LOSS)
Warriors (omg)
Hornets (omg)
New Jersey (lolz)
Portland (omgz)
Houston (without t-mac AND yao... blowout, laughable game)
Milwaukee (lolz)
Sacramento (lolz)
New Jersey (wow, TWICE)
Boston (omgz)
Charlotte (lolz)
Orlando (first decent team)
Miami (D.Wade DNP, sore wrist)
Golden State (TWICE)
Sacramento (TWICE)
Toronto (whee)
Washington (LOSS)

Are you fucking kidding me? The mavs haven't enjoyed a 15-game schedule that cushy all season long. Houston, Washington, Orlando were the only teams in the whole list that had winning records throughout the entire trip, and they fucking lost to Washington.

And, for the record... two games later... after that BLISTERINGLY hot run through the losing teams in the league, they came to Dallas... where they lost, again. But, don't worry! One (L) just means they can start another giant winning streak because there isn't a tough team until the 1st and 3rd of February when San Antonio and Utah come to town.

But you won by 1 point. Same with the Washington game where Gil went off. Plus Washington is number 1 in the east now.

Uh, we won. And Washington won by 5. By that logic, Phoenix won a LOT of their games, in the East mind you... by small margins... Chicago (97-96), Toronto (100-98), NY (112-107), Boston (116-111), Orlando (108, 102), NJ (101-99)...

A win is a win. We'd love to have that game against L.A. back... we would have a 22-game winning streak right now. But we lost it, by one shot. Oh well.

Wasn't Washington in overtime?

I get where you're coming from Vonk. We used to joke about the media lovefest with PHO in years past because back then I thought the Mavs were better, and they were. Now, I think PHO is better. The stats and difficulty of schedule may disagree with me, but from top to bottom their top 7 is better than your top 7. You may beat them at 8 to 10 spots, but in the playoffs when you tighten up your rotations I think they have you beat. Time will tell and you can shove it back in my face if you beat em, but that's just my opinion.

Uh, this is your first NBA post ever... and you are posting because you live in Chicago and your team beat the mavs for only the second time since 1998? That's right, we are now 18-2 over the past decade. Congrats on your mediocrity. Good luck in round one of the playoffs.

Otherwise... yeah... we played like shit tonight... we would have lost to Memphis. NOBODY hit their shots. Oh well, shit happens.

Nobody can win when people aren't hitting their shots like that. It's a miracle they were even still in it in the end.

Chicago relying on PJ Brown as their lowpost scorer was pretty sad. They need to make a move to even out their roster if they want to beat ... Washington? in the playoffs.

Well... I still like Chicago for the 'team to watch' award. I don't like the Ben Wallace move... not at all... but besides Colangelo stealing Nash from Cuban, I don't think there was a single "one-sided, fucked-up" transaction than the Eddy Curry to the Knicks dump. If NY gives Chicago Oden/Durant... oh lord.

I kinda like the Joe Johnson for what 2 firsts ANS Boris Diaw deal myself but both are pretty awful.

I wish my team had the GM that pulled off both of those moves.

Oden, as good as he is, wouldn't be ridiculous in Chicago like he would in other places. Durant on the other hand would be too perfect on that team. It may very well be why Chicago hasn't made a deal with Minny or Memphis yet.

I'm from Chicago but i don't live there anymore. And for the record I don't claim to know shit about the NBA. I'm just glad the Bulls won and just thought I'd rub it in because they beat your team.

They lose to a Western conference team...

The Suns are now .950 (20-1)against Eastern conference teams and .666 (16-8) against teams in the West.

In contrast, Dallas is .750 against Western foes. That's the best record in the league... San Antonio is third, at .550. Phoenix is making a name for themselves by beating up on the East and then coming back and losing to the teams in the West. They now have a LOSING record when playing the Western playoff teams...

Phoenix vs:

1) Dallas: 0-2
2) suns --
3) Utah: 0-2
4) San Antonio: 0-1
5) Houston: 1-0
6) L.A. Lakers: 0-1
7) Denver: 0-0
8) Minnesota: 1-1
9) L.A. Clippers: 0-1

Total: 2-8

But, they've run all over the Grizzlies (2-0), Warriors (2-0) and Kings... :hiphop:
congrats.

and for the record, Dallas is 11-5 against those teams. And 3 of those losses come from our 0-4 start (Clips, Spurs, Rockets).

We'll see when the playoffs roll around. Phoenix is a better team than Dallas right now, in my opinion, and in the opinion of most NBA analysts.

You can't argue with their January results and the fact they are peaking right now. My guess is Dallas will meet Phoenix in the post season, and right now I like Phoenix to beat them in a series.

They play San Antonio on Thursday..

And I'm saying that the analysts have it wrong. They are ignoring the fact that Phoenix has enjoyed a much easier schedule than Dallas and San Antonio. If either of them were blitzing through the East like this, we'd be talking about a DYNASTY 40-2 San Antonio team or whatever else. Phoenix is who they are because of a cushy schedule.

Read: They are 2-8 against the playoff teams of the West. TWO AND EIGHT.
