Vanguard Live. Beginning thoughts.

Post by Scatillac »

Its Official! Vanguard is Live! A Massive Zone-Free World rich with... Lets take a look

So i hopped in yesterday on Thunderaxe as a Dwarf, the world was unusually underpopulated. which is good for me so no lag. set off on the quest line and got the armor and weapons and made my way to Borindar's Cleft the great dwarven city. Im level 9 now and getting to 10 so i can buy a horse. Anyone else playing? what do you think so far? my only real complaint so far is the lack of mob variety. Basicly Gwartaks are all ive come across they kinda look like iksar. oh yea and Wildmen that look like chewbacca.

Please keep up the feedback. I'm very interested and enjoyed the last month of beta, but I still had concerns that kept me from purchasing this.

Ouch. How many servers do they have? This game might be a complete wash if they don't even have 10,000 players at launch.

Its a very interesting game. Graphics are very nice, seems to be very populated, hell there was even a /shout dialog going on, just like old EQ. Lots of possibilities for classes, and tons of different races.

So far my only complaint is the FPS issues that tons of people are having. Most people are believing its coming from Sigil/SoE end. My system is a lower line system (as far as minimum system specs go) and has been having a shit time running. However i have a buddy with the almost identical system, running it smoothly /shrug.

Going to do some tweaks to my machine when i get home, hopefully that will help.

All in all, this game has TONS of potential.

There are some boats right where Half Elves started. Not sure where else they are in the game. Where you started could be landlocked, check you map and head in the general direction of the coast

512MB ram + Vista Ultimate + Vanguard = No dice.

I have 2GB coming on Thursday so hopefully that will help with some of the framerate issues.

The short time I was on, I was fairly impressed. The gameworld seems HUGE.

It is a HUGE world. Im very impressed so far. Out of curiosity, wich video card are you using Toss? That seems to be my main problem, and alot of others. Video cards are very specific on this.

Geforce 7400 Go. It's a mobile chipset but should be up to the task. I am not expecting great frame rates but I know the ram upgrade is going to make a HUGE difference. I have like 30MB free when Vista is idling so whenever I fire up any app, it pages really hard.

I'd really consider waiting about 6 months for this game to be a bit more polished. It is an ok game, but was released early. Later this year I bet it's a very good game.

Get WOW BC or EQ2 for now.. Get Vanguard later in 07

I'm burned out on the WoW thing. I may get BC down the road. I have EQ2 EoF and really like it. I was in Martrae / Kahar's guild for like 5 minutes but then some RL co-workers talked me into moving to another server and guilding up. So.. I'm currently going strong on EQ2 but this Vanguard shit is intriguing.

Why I want to play a game that will most likely kick my ass because I don't have the time to put into it, I don't know. I blame my parents.
