I had it on mod approval notification and then switched it to they had to physically use a real email address and activate their account.
Will be looking into other forms of security. This type of board is prone to bot attacks, though.
Mod approval sucks btw....
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.
When I had it set up for mod approval I was getting new emails about every hour. It's a pain.
Honestly, I'm just tempted to close registrations. It's not like anyone but bots are applying anyway.

How about setting up a default account that can request a new account be made? The aforementioned default account can only be used to post in an account request forum/thread or something?
hey, maybe we could make a whole seperate section of the board, to discuss how to get rid of spammers....we could call it "Spamalot", and only discussions of spam could go on there. No talk about movies, or games, or going to araby's house?
p.s. this might sound more harsh than I mean it.. I kid because I love

referrals
people get advertising revenue everytime there's a unique hit on the website
so if you create a bot that trolls the net, signs up for every forum possible, and spams a link to your site, someone's bound to click on it and make you some money

I've been looking into this but, as far as I can tell, we need to upgrade the board to the latest edition and, personally, I'd just as soon let Gid do that.
When's the bugger gonna be back?
