Did someone say Speed Racer?

Actor Vince Vaughn is developing a live-action movie version of the Japanese cartoon series Speed Racer, Daily Variety said Thursday.

The paper said the DodgeBall star would star as Racer X -- the long-lost brother of the title character.

The project is being produced for Warner Bros. by Joel Silver (The Matrix) and Richard and Lauren Shuler Donner. Vaughn will also serve as an executive producer.

Speed Racer has had a series of false starts in the past -- with such directors as Alfonso Cuaron, Julien Temple, Gus Van Sant and Hype Williams preparing at various times to take it to the starting line.

Variety said Vaughn revived the project with a pitch that focused more on character and family than on big-budget effects.

I've been a fan of the show since I was a kid and I always liked the theme of the protective older brother who can't reveal his identity, Vaughn said.

they need to replace the three of them with Larry Moe and curly.

Then it would be fun. The fat bitch that shows up from time to time can be played by Shemp.

Paint them all different colors and Ill watch it.

My kids used to really like Lazy Town and that was a show I actually had few problems with.

It was especially funny to watch them try to emulate Sporticus.

I thought the reason they were never showing Underdog any more is because some of the conservative parent groups were up in arms that his popping his super power pill to turn into Underdog was promoting drug use. That aspect of the character going to be done away with? If not, betcha this one gets pulled fast, asinine as that is.

interesting, never knew this. I guess Popeye was a true hero since his powers were from consuming spinach.

on a side note: anyone remember the cartoon Hong Kong Fuey? I used to be terribly afraid of the villian in that cartoon-the dark shadow with the coat/hat...I had nightmares of him and remember screaming in the middle of the night but noone ever came to my room to see if I was okay. :ugh:
