Where to start

Postby Gypsiyee » Thu Feb 08, 2007 3:09 pm

So since I'm moving in with my dad for a while and there's really no room for my computer, I'm thinking I'd really like to sell it and get a macbook for space purposes. The problem is, I wouldn't even know where to begin to sell it other than ebay, and I don't particularly know what my best bet is - to sell it outright or gut it and sell the pieces.

It's not even a year old and we custom built it - some of the basics, 1024 ram, 2.2ghz amd processor, geforce 7800 GT 256mb (pci-e slot) and the other crap i can't remember off the top of my head but I could make a spec list.

It just doesn't make sense for me to hold onto a destkop right now, it'd have to just go straight into storage and then i wouldn't be able to have a computer while I live there which just isn't feasible for me >.<

Is there a craigslist in your area and how much do you want for it?

If there is a craigslist, I'd recommend going there. Local transactions, cash on delivery and no way of them pursuing contact with you if they have computer issues.

probably maximize the $$ you'd get for it by parting it up, but potentially you'd end up only selling 1 or peices and be stuck with the rest

craiglist(or similar) is definitely your best bet. you can even just say you'd like to trade it straight up for a comparably priced laptop

You most likely won't get much for it. Custom built PC's are not very attractive to anyone looking for a used PC unless they want to part it out themselves. Does it at least have a legit copy of windows on it?

It does have a legit copy of windows on it yeah. That's not to say I still have the disks, though, but yes, it's fully licensed etc.

I guess what I'm hoping is that there's an actual physical place that buys old computers for refurbishing etc, I know there was a place like that in VA that would literally accept trade ins but I have no idea anymore.

The thing cost me like a grand to put together last year.

and you might get $350 for it now =\

if you look around long enough, you may find a small computer shop that'll take it as a trade on a laptop or something

A refurb 7800 GT you can get for like $130 now which would be about the same as a used one.

Your best bet is credit towards a trade-in with a local shop.

I was just basing it on ebay prices, since if I was to sell anything that's where it would be >.<

Yeah Harrison, that's what I was thinking.. but I would have to find one first ~
