I predict he gets canned after 8 games next season.

He's never been a good head coach.

Actually, I think this is a good situation for the Cowboys. Jones gets to retain his power and have an amiable guy who is a Defensive Wizard there. He gets to bring in his young new OC in Jason Garrett without the bickering between Norv and he.

We'll see how it pans out next year. I think Wade is a better choice than Norv.

What do you guys think about the affirmative action rule the NFL has for coaching and management positions?

Off topic but I'm curious and don't want to make my own thread.

I really don't like it much, but in some cases(pittsburgh for instance) it resulted in a guy getting a job that he wasn't even remotely going to be considered for originally

the final choice of who's hired is still ultimately who the owner feels is the best choice(I'm assuming of course)

I'm just hoping that 5 years down the road people stop even bringing up race as a qualifier when they're talking about someone

I don't think it matters much. In the end, the owner or Gm will just hire the one he thinks that is best for his team regardless of race or skin color.

An Asian coach will win it before a Hispanic coach.

As for the "Diversity" issue, I know that Jones interviewed Mike Singletary, so that alone would go at least partway to filling the interview requirement.

As soon as they create a rule where you have to interview 1 NON-minority canidate as well I'd be fine with it.

and replaced the QB(flutie) who'd won most of the regular season games with the guy(johnson lawl) who'd been hurt and sitting on the bench all year leading to 1st round loss

awesome coach

I'm just glad cause this means the 49ers retain BOTH Norv AND Singletary for another season. Norv may suck as a head coach, but he's an excellent offensive coordinator, and has always brought out the best in the quarterbacks he's been around. This will do great things for Alex Smith's career, for sure.

Also, Singletary is incredibly respected by the players, given his personality and background. Having him around helps the team as a whole immensely. I mean, seriously, is any player, especially a D-man, going to ignore him when Mike Singletary gives him some advice on how to play better? I think not.

In all seriousness, this may make the difference between the 49ers making the playoffs and missing them. Well, this and how they spend the cap space they FINALLY have after a solid decade of cap hell.

Belechick stunk in Cleveland before going to N.E.

It's a guessing game with coaches, and I think it's more about the overall staff and players than the head coach.

I'd guess the Cowboys will be a playoff threat again next year. I think their future depends more on how Romo matures than on Wade Phillips.

It's real simple for the Cowpies. It's called, throw TO the damn ball and don't choke.

The problem is, TO has been stinking up the place of late. He cuts off routes, alligator-arms balls any time it looks like he might gets hit, and dropped balls at several times the rate of even AVERAGE receivers. As a QB, how can you trust a WR when you know he might not be where he's supposed to be, isn't likely to try hard to make a catch, and stands a far better chance than average of dropping it even if he DOES reach out and grab it?

He didn't drop much later in the season I don't think. He dropped a couple with Bledsoe as QB because he'd injured his hand a couple of weeks before that.

Randy Moss has been stinking up the place. TO played fine, especially considering he had a broken finger. Dropped passes are a bad stat, IMO. It's also misleading as a guy who has 10 times as many balls thrown to him is going to drop more. TOs stats were still very, very good, and he is still an impact player.

TO's issues will come up when he feels 'wronged' and makes a spectacle of himself, like he's done everywhere else. Parcells made it easy to know where the buck stopped and I think TO knew not the cross the line, since Bill would kick him to the street quicker than you can say Vanderjagt. Phillips is a more laid back guy, so I wonder when the old TO will resurface....
