Like any other MS product, I am goin gto wait til Service Pack 1 is released. Any new huge piece of software is going to have issues, I simply will wait until the initial release set of issues are fixed, and then look at aquiring it.

Ok, put 2 gigs of ram in the laptop.

Vista is great if you throw enough ram at it.

I usually run my OS bare bones but the bells and whistles are really nice. The networking, performance, reporting and troubleshooting tools and the overall ease of use are great. I wouldn't suggest everyone run out and buy it but it's a great OS for the kind of work I do.

Agreed, I wouldn't try running it with less than 2GIG, I'd rather have 3 for the extra caching but it's a fun OS. Loving it so far.

I loved it the first week.

I then started hitting all of its weakpoints left and right.

Been running it for a couple weeks now. So far no weak points. What problems did you have?

vista basic/home premium dont support faxing, total clusterfuck when it comes to driver support. runs like a snail with anything older than 6 months old.
if you are a complete newb with computers the os leads to extreme amounts of frustration

on the plus side you can get a vista computer dirt cheap out of the dell refurb.

I had to uninstall it due to lack of driver support from 3rd parties including my firewire sound card.

Hrmm I am normally a Dell laptop shop here, but recenlty brought in some sonys for the small footprint and such. Check out some of the Vaios from Sony. Last two I bought are still XP. (Some things I don't like about them but seem semi solid)

Sorry anyone is being forced into Vista at this point. As I've said before, I don't trust any MS product, especially an OS until at least the first major service pack comes out. By then, most of the major issues have been ironed out, there's usually a fairly stable driver suite, etc. No way in hell am I adopting it now or any time soon.

Vista kicks ass if you have a machine that can run it and if 3rd party assholes would get some up to date drivers out there. They only had what, 2 fucking years to come up with compatible drivers?
