(BTW, for those who have no idea who Gunther is: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 3577505426 )

And you know, I really wish the old advertising rules still applied, that didn't allow for companies to advertise prescription medication. Seeing all these damn commercials gets real old, real fast.

rofl, that Gunther video is quite possibly one of the gayest videos ever made, and that's despite featuring half naked women dancing and writhing around. So, ladies, do you thrill to the hotness that is his 70s porn star moustache, and butt-chin? rofl.

If Zan remembers, I said I didn't watch episodic television shows. I do watch things like sports, news or the History Channel. OK, I do admit to watching a repeating show, The Daily Show, and frequently the Colbert Report.

Episodic TV annoys me for a number of reasons. First, frequently it's pure drivel, aimed at people with the IQ levels of retarded lemmings. No thank you. Furthermore, they tend to layer on the sentimentality to the point of saccharine overload, and the faux emoting to the point of nausea. Most reality TV falls into category 1. (Oh yes, I care about watching people eat maggots or whatever it is they do on Fear Factor to try and win some prize. Sure. not.)

Even well-done shows run into 1 of 2 problems, however. 1) They are designed to neatly tie up whatever this week's problem or issue is into a 21 minute package, where it's all nice and neatly wrapped up by the end of the show, except for "Special to-be-continued!" episodes, of course. Sorry, but issues in real life never neatly wrap themselves up with a handy moral lesson in 22 minutes.

2) Even shows that don't do this, but tell a story over a whole season are problematic, because if you miss a week, you're often hopelessly lost. Given the fact I don't have Tivo, and often am busy in the evenings, my interest/ability to keep up with serial shows is minimal, and the odds of my being able to keep up with a show for more than a couple weeks is about 0. Sorry, but other things in my life have signifcantly more importance to me than planting myself in front of the TV every week religiously at some time in order to make sure I catch a TV show. So, rather than try and get frustrated, when I don't even care for the shows much anyway, if I turn the TV on at all, I'll generally have it on something educational, where I might pick up a fact or two.

I am curious as to what brought the snide remark on, however. I have stayed basically entirely out of any TV threads for quite a while now, save for a self-deprecating joke about wondering why I wasn't picked for the Survivor pool. I didn't even comment ABOUT Survivor then, either, may I note. I guess someone must have pissed in his Wheaties or something.

Arlos that's hilarious coming from someone who plays MMO games religiously which are infinitely predicatable and monotonous in the end.

Just calling Bullshit. There's no doubt in my mind he's watching repeats of Full House every day then coming here and singing a different tune.

Actually, I don't think I've ever seen a single episode of Full House. Nor Melrose Place, nor 90210, nor Saved by the Bell, etc. etc. etc. Even when I DID watch TV frequently, back in the 80s, there were only 3 sitcoms I could tolerate: MASH, Night Court and Benson. Meanwhile, because my grandmother lived with us, and my room was right off the kitchen/family room where she watched TV all day, I was subjected to an endless barrage of such drivel as Matlock, The Golden Girls, Murder She Wrote, etc. etc. etc. Ultimately, I only had TV for maybe just half of the 90s, it just wasn't important enough to me for me to budget in spending for cable TV back then in the early 90s when I was just starting out lviing on my own, and making squat. If I wanted to watch a football game or something, I went to a friend's place. Otherwise, I read the newspaper. My TV was just a monitor that was used to watch movies on via the VCR or later the DVD player.

And Taxx, with the MMO, I'm involved with it, and it's an interactive game that I'm playing. But yes, certain aspects of it do get boring. That's part of why I like to be in a cutting-edge raid guild, because it means I'm always getting to experience new content and encounters, at least until we've conquered everything and it's all on farm status. Once that happens, my playtime usually drops off dramatically, until the next new raid zone comes out, and then it ramps back up again.

I don't know what's so hard to understand about someone simply not liking television, especially nowadays. There's so many other avenues for entertainment or information that TV is largely irrelevant. 90% of the time my TV on it's because there's a sporting event I want to watch, or because it's acting as background noise rather than putting a CD on or something.

I don't watch TV because I can't but from what I've seen there's a lot of good stuff on TV nowadays. Lost, Heroes, The Office, 30 Rock, Entourage, etc etc. I would definately watch if I had the time.
