I mean, the man is most definitely a bore but honestly, he seems genuinely concerned about his fellow human beings.

But evidently not enough to live eco friendly. Just to make movies and travel around in his private jet to his adoring fans.

So, other than the fact that he doesn't live in a wigwam, why do people hate him again?

I don't hate him. He has a great scam with his green business and will make millions. Good for him. Good for his followers here who eat it up.

Gore raies the alarm about global warming. Then he says he offsets his heavy carbon use by purchasing carbon credits through a company named Generation Investment Management, and recommends everyone else do the same. Feel free to spend your money on carbon offsets.

However, Gore is the chairman and cofounder of Generation Investment Management. So he offsets his heavy use by buying carbon offset in the company he owns. Seems a scam to me.

p.s. Keep it civil and keep the shi'ite out of here, please.

p.p.s I hope everyone bleeds red. If not, you probably aren't human. Then again, 10, you could be the Undead. :)

Well Lyion, any place you find millions of votes at stake, you're bound to find someone making millions of dollars. The two go hand in hand. I'd rather the war machine go broke and the "Green" machine get rich though, but that's just me.

Actually, I agree with you, Toss. Our military is a bloated and nasty machine that wastes a sickening amount of money. I think the amount spent in Iraq is staggering and ludicrous.

I also think conservation and eco-friendliness is wise. I just don't like the class warfare or the political nature of these things.

There's one point you're missing though Lyion, and that is that to effectively deliver his message he needs certain luxuries. To me, the benefit of his cause is worth the risk of possible political damage from pundits like you.

His aim is higher than to reduce his insignificant consumption in the larger scale, and for that he's doing much more good than a hundred Ws.

You miss, ignore, don't care, or just plain avoided the simple fact Gore is making money off this.

I'll concede the private jet. I'll even concede the multiple mansions and exorbitant lifestyle Tipper Gore has probably become accustomed to.

However, buying Carbon Offsets from his own company and declaring himself green is as moral as Bill Gates donating copies of Windows to charities.

I guess hypocrisy is ok if the message is good.

I'm not sure you know what hypocrisy means, but owning a company that has ambitious goals, then spending money into it is not hypocrisy.

I suppose I'd rather someone tout his environmental conservation company then Cheney's post-war cleanup company.

To each his own.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- Former Vice President Al Gore's upscale neighborhood granted the environmental activist approval Tuesday to install 33 solar panels on the roof of his mansion.

The city of Belle Meade, Tennessee, had blocked his application until new rules were approved unanimously late Tuesday, said Gore spokesman Chris Song. The city, located within metropolitan Nashville, said the panels must be placed in areas where they can't be seen by neighbors.

Gore, who starred in the documentary film "An Inconvenient Truth" about global warming, already buys enough energy from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and methane gas to balance 100 percent of his electricity costs.

He is also upgrading the furnace, windows, and light switches, as well as installing new floor radiant heat and solar vents, to improve the home's energy standards, said Kalee Kreider, a Gore spokeswoman.

The home, bought by Gore in 2002, is more than 70 years old and illustrates the challenges of renovating an older home to conserve more energy, Kreider said.

"It's obviously easier to build a green home from the get-go," she said. "When you purchase an older home, these retrofits take a lot longer."
