No drinking age sure - wine liquor, whatever it doesn't matter what.. if it was a 12+ year old I'd be a lot more accepting of either situation.. but these are babies. They can't even bathe themselves yet - to inebriate a child is just incredibly sad to me.

If you want to smoke pot fine, if you want to drink fine.. I have no opposition to either, but to bring a child into the decisions you've made for yourself is a problem in my eyes.

I think the effect on a 12 year olds brain and a 2 year olds would be very much the same so i dont see how it owuld be ok for one and not the other. How often do you really think someone getting thier 2 year old plastered happens? Id bet its not something that happens often and when it does i bet more often than not its teen siblings being retarded. If that is the case they need an ass whuppin from mom not the police and to waste any tax payer money "rehabilitating" them.

At 12 you're old enough to have learned what exactly it is and have some grasp on how it effects you. Think back to when you were 12.. 7th or 8th grade - old enough to make a lot of your own decisions, no? I know at 12 I had already started dating, going to parties, etc. Now think back to when you were 2.. can you even remember it? I definitely can't, because the only thing I knew then was that biting and bad words were bad and I loved mommy daddy and sissy.

Of course I don't think kids getting high or drunk happens often.. but what sticks out to me big in this article too is that this isn't just some kid still living with mom and dad - this kid is out living on his own as a 'responsible adult.' By that alone, this isn't something a parent can handle. He's 17, the other 2 were 18.. legally grown, there's nothing mom or dad can tell them that's going to change it - they're living as adults and by that standard will and should be served adult punishment. Once you're old enough to think you can just live on your own and pay your own bills that's the time you become a full fledged adult, responsibile for every action you make. They also noted that the 5 year old was smoking and inhaling it on his own, and it's not like they'd know to do that on the first time it happened.

the brain dmg in pot use at a young age is attributed to the child not learning appropriate coping mechanisms for emotional stimulus during development. if instead of dealing w/ that stress they turn to pot or alcohol to deal w/ it the part of the brain used to deal with those things goes undeveloped. this is similar to those feral children - once they get past a certain age and haven't learned any language abilities, the part of the brain used for language is undeveloped and will not develop throughout life.

so... the pot itself isn't dmging, it's the use of pot as a crutch to deal w/ emotional stress during brain development that is dmging.

i'd be less concerned w/ the single incident of the kids smoking pot than with the environment/lack of parental supervision around them that would allow such a thing to happen, that is more detrimental to their all-around health than pot.

edit: im doin homework and didnt type this out with the utmost clarity that it needs so if any1 needs a point expanded upon axe me\

o and this can happen with video games/any other form of escapism at that age. esp. if the family has a history of alcoholism in it.
